Tonight the student and I focused on normal distributions. We started our session by reviewing standard deviations and quartiles and how those relate to normal distributions. Then we practiced calculating z-scores and finding the density under normal curve. To finish our session, we talked about how the density under the curve can apply to the probability or percentage of an occurrence.

The goal of the session was to prepare and clarify vocabulary for the upcoming Chapter 4 Test. First we reviewed some concepts the student wanted clarification in from Chapter 3. Then we built upon that in Chapter 4 to go over exponential & power regression models. The student seems to have a strong grasp of the math involved in solving these problems and which method to use - this is demonstrated by her completeness on assigned homework sets. However she wanted some explanations as to the "why" we use regressions & scatter plots in the first place, difference between r vs r2, interpreting residual plots and moreover the technical terms used in Statistics to describe data. I also showed her some online resources and sent practice material via email to assist with this preparation.
