Work With The Perfect Tutor For You

Every Miami tutor must meet our high standards for qualifications, pass an interview screening, and submit a background check. From this elite group, a Varsity Tutors director helps pair you with a tutor ready to meet your individual needs – and we stand behind your satisfaction with our money-back guarantee.

You select the time and location, and expert tutors develop the strategies to help you meet and exceed your tutoring goals.

What's the price of studying with a private tutor in Miami?

The price of meeting with a professional tutor in Miami depends on several factors, such as the level of material you want to review, your physical location, how often sessions take place, and the size of your study group. For example, you may pay a different hourly rate for sessions on a clearly-defined schedule than you would with a more haphazard approach.

Similarly, tutoring for a student focusing on creative writing at iPrep Academy carries a different price tag than tutoring for a math major at Florida International University.

While some students assume that tutoring must be 1:1, many instructors also offer group tutoring options. Reviewing one-on-one ensures that you can concentrate on your unique needs, and studying in a group can make it easier to consider multiple viewpoints on each concept. Both setups are proven educational tools, and Varsity Tutors can enroll you in an affordable small group course to supplement any tutoring plan.

Tutoring is a worthwhile investment for students of all ability levels as well. If you or your student are falling behind in class, your instructor can help you figure out why and then design a learning plan to help you catch up. If you generally earn good grades, your Miami tutor can provide more detail than your classroom teacher can to encourage you to reach higher. Please contact Varsity Tutors directly for more info on the benefits of private instruction and what it might cost.

How do I locate a private tutor in Miami for my student?

If you tried to locate your own private teacher in Miami, you would have to verify that each prospective candidate offered a robust understanding of pertinent academic concepts, could meet you on your schedule, and understood how to teach students like you. Why put yourself through all of that hassle when the expert Educational Directors at Varsity Tutors will find you a great instructor in as little as 24 hours?

We maintain an extensive database of over 40,000 certified instructors, so we will be able to accommodate any special requests you have.

If your child is a kinesthetic learner who studies best by doing, we'll refer you to a tutor who can design at-home experiments and other interactive activities to reinforce classroom learning. If you rarely needed to sit down and study in the past, we'll connect you with a study skills tutor who can help you prepare for more challenging coursework.

We will even find you a tutor in Miami who you can work alongside without leaving your home. Our Live Learning Platform helps facilitate face-to-face tutoring sessions anywhere with a good internet connection, including your bedroom or the library at Coral Reef Senior High School. It also includes great features such as video chat capabilities, a shared document editor, integrated practice problems, and a virtual whiteboard to deliver a great study experience.

What are the types of tutoring offered in Miami?

Similarly, a private tutor can help you prepare for standardized examinations. If you are taking an FSA, your tutor can use sample tests to help you identify your specific strengths and weaknesses. Then, your instructor can tailor subsequent sessions to focus on your newly-identified areas of opportunity. We can also find you a tutor for your SAT, GRE, GMAT, MCAT, or DAT prep, as well as hundreds of professional certification exams. In short, our Educational Directors will be able to find you a tutor for any topic imaginable.

A private teacher in Miami can even provide valuable support as you homeschool your children. An instructor can review your lesson plans and provide constructive criticism on what you could improve. Signing up for tutoring also gets you access to our Learning Lab, a collection of virtual resources curated to help students and their parents with homeschooling. For instance, our Learning Lab includes adaptive assessments that objectively measure your student's progress toward the next grade level. If you have ever felt overwhelmed by homeschooling and your other responsibilities, a private tutor can help make your workload more manageable.

Are the tutors in Miami assessed for their qualifications?

We utilize one of the most comprehensive screening processes in the industry so that you can trust that the Miami tutor who we refer to you suits your needs. We begin by verifying that each candidate blends extensive academic knowledge with outstanding communication skills, ensuring that they have the basic tools expected of any instructor.

We also double-check their availability so that your sessions take place as scheduled.

We also look for certain intangibles that you may not realize you need. For instance, we value passion throughout our verification process because dedicated instructors go the extra mile to ensure a great student experience. We also look for instructors with outgoing, friendly personalities to make it easier for teachers and pupils to forge a meaningful bond. This personal connection can actually expedite the learning process by making it easier for students to ask questions or simply apply themselves academically. Most importantly, we look for tutors who understand the importance of putting their student's needs first.

Whether your student is struggling at a local high school such as Mast Academy or you just want to stay ahead of the game, a tutor in Miami can provide the support you are looking for. If you have any further questions regarding private instruction or are ready to sign up today, reach out to our knowledgeable Educational Directors for more information.

The Miami School System

The Miami-Dade County Public School District is home to more than 400 academic institutions serving nearly 400,000 students. Of these, nearly 40 are public high schools and 120 more are magnet schools that require an application process. The area has the largest minority public school system in the nation and is one of the only public school districts in the country to offer bilingual education in French, German, Haitian Creole, Mandarin Chinese, and Spanish. The city is also home to Design and Architecture High School, one of the country’s best magnet schools. The large student population and rigorous competition for admittance into the highly regarded charter schools in the area can be intimidating for students.

One of the ways to help students who are struggling with a subject, preparing for a standardized exam, or seeking a higher level of mastery in a particular area is to have them work with a private tutor. Professional Miami tutors can work with students from pre-K to university level courses to help them improve their skills. A personal tutor can also help with exam preparation for tests such as the SAT, ACT, FSA, or ISEE. Take a look at how some of the biggest schools in Miami stack up against state assessment averages:

Miami Test Scores

The FSA, or Florida Standards Assessments exams are given to students in the state beginning in the third grade. They are a tool to help educators measure a student’s academic gains and progress over the course of their academic career. Subjects covered include English Language Arts, Mathematics, End of Course exams in Algebra 1 and Geometry, and Science in grades five and eight.

These tests can be especially stressful for third and tenth grade students. Third grade students must receive a passing score to be promoted to the fourth grade. In order to graduate from high school, Florida students must pass a final FSA exam. The exam is first given in the tenth grade in order to give students additional time to earn a passing grade if they fail the exam the first time. If a student is unable to pass the FSA, there may be a complicated path to graduation by earning minimum scores on the ACT or SAT. Regardless, a passing FSA score is optimal.

An experienced Miami tutor can work with your child to master the subject areas covered by the state examination. This can include specific subject area instruction, but it may also include test taking strategies or general reading comprehension skills, which can help improve the student’s confidence and academic ability and help alleviate testing anxiety. While not strictly an academic indicator, confidence in one’s ability and a method for mitigating stress can help improve test scores.

Students of all ages need to be focused on course grades and exam scores, as the competition to get into the best schools begins long before high school. Once students enter high school, they need to be consistently looking forward to their college careers. Curious about which Miami high schools are at the top of the list? We’ve put together an informative table for your consideration:

Spent most of the time reviewing linear equations and then moved onto properties. Properties were easy, we whipped right through it. We'll skip through geometry tomorrow, going to be rushed but he has some familiarity with it already. Review will be Thursday then he'll take the test, hopefully what we've covered is going to help him out.

Worked with the student on using all of the information gained from a function and its first two derivatives to list details about the function, so that graphing it by hand becomes easier, such as max/min, intercepts, inflection points, etc.

Tutoring review by Antonio in Miami, FL
We worked in more course materials and test ready exercises. The student is getting much more comfortable with direct and indirect objects. The listening parts are a little bit challenging but she is getting her Spanish hearing sharper day by day. We need to work on building sentences out of disordered given words and reflexive pronoun placement. Overall she is doing a great job with her class and we only work in her areas of need.

Tutoring review by Ishita in Miami, FL
Today we did a review of fractions. She's okay with simple ones, but gets confused on mixed numbers. Afterwards we talked about the plan of how to get her up to speed in math. We also realized that, for now, having her follow diagrams of how to approach certain problems is a good way for her to get comfortable with doing the problems.
