SIE Tutoring FAQ
The SIE (or Security Industry Essentials) is a relatively new test that FINRA (Financial Industry Regulatory Authority) started administering on October 1, 2018. It assesses a student's knowledge of basic securities industry information including concepts fundamental to working in the industry, such as types of products and their risks, the structure of securities industry markets, regulatory agencies and their functions, and prohibited practices. This test is a prerequisite for all of FINRA's Series exams, forcing every prospective financial professional in the country to take it. If you want to make the most of your study sessions, Varsity Tutors can help you find an expert SIE tutor to assist you.
The SIE consists of 75 multiple-choice questions administered over 105 minutes. Topics include Knowledge of Capital Markets (16%), Understanding Products and Their Risks (44%), Understanding Trading, Customer Accounts, and Prohibited Activities (31%), and an Overview of Regulatory Framework (9%). Your tutor can tailor your study sessions to your individualized needs, concentrating on areas of weakness in order to give you a well-rounded knowledge base. They can also answer any questions asked in an expedient manner.
Since the SIE is multiple-choice, it's possible to respond to a question correctly even if you are unsure of the answer. Your SIE tutor can share proven test-taking strategies to help you eliminate incorrect responses, increasing the likelihood of getting a question right if you're stumped.
Test anxiety can also be a significant hurdle on standardized exams. Your SIE tutor can provide practice exams and other learning aids to help you get a sense for the exam's format, removing any fear of the unknown from the equation. Practice tests can also give you an idea of how long your 105 minutes will feel like, helping you budget your time accordingly.
If you're ready to work with an SIE tutor but aren't sure how to get started, we can help you find somebody who meets your academic expectations. Our mobile-friendly Live Learning Platform also allows you to study on your schedule, anywhere with a stable internet connection. It also enhances your study sessions with handy tools such as a virtual whiteboard and video chat capability. Reach out to us today for more information.
