Tutoring review by Jamie in Milltown, NJ
Today the student and I met in order to study for two upcoming exams, one of which is a retake. We continued with the social studies packet, which she had elected to complete, but decided she'd like a little more help in some of the sections as well as a second set of eyes on the questions she'd already answered. A few comprehension and spelling issues, but otherwise great! Then we went through her math homework together - both the previous assignments that will be relevant to her retake exam as well as a new homework assignment. I suggested she go back through the past math chapters and do the questions which were not assigned, as she now has until next week to prep for the math retake.

She has started covering quadratic functions. We solved some complex free fall problems, and she built the equations herself at the end of the worksheet. Next week we are going to work on better ways of seeing quadratics, possibly by graphing.

I revised two of the student's college essays and we tossed idea developments back and forth in conversation. We proceeded to create her common app account and began to streamline her college application process. We formalized her list of schools and went through their essay requirements. Then, we outlined a few of them. She is showing great progress on her essays, and the main essay is really becoming stronger and more creative.

The student seems to be doing well lately. I made sure to emphasize that if he has trouble with any particular type of problem during the week, using the resources available to him (like reaching out to his father or looking up strategies on the Internet) is a good skill to develop, as the further he goes in his academia, the less assistance and more self discovery he is going to have to do. He definitely understands the material in a one on one environment.
