The Hoboken School System

The city of Hoboken sits on the New Jersey side of the Hudson River, and it has a population of over 50,000 people. Hoboken’s public elementary and secondary schools are part of the Hoboken Public Schools district. All told, there are close to 2,500 students enrolled at the handful of the city’s schools. Though Hoboken itself has only two high schools, there is a wide range of well-performing high schools in the surrounding area.

Hoboken’s public high schools offer a student-to-teacher ratio that falls well short of the New Jersey state average. In theory, this allows educators to spend more time with each student. Nevertheless, some students don’t get the attention they need to keep up in class or get ahead.

Hoboken Student-to-Teacher Ratios

Bergen County Academies has a 12 1 student-teacher ratio.

Hoboken Junior Senior High School has a 11 1 student-teacher ratio.

Bergen County Technical High School - Teterboro has a 10 1 student-teacher ratio.

Hoboken Charter School has a 9 1 student-teacher ratio.

Union County Magnet High School has a 13 1 student-teacher ratio.

New Jersey State Average has a 12 1 student-teacher ratio.

Despite the smaller class sizes, Hoboken high schools have a lower-than-average AP exam pass rate. Other top high schools located near Hoboken have better track records, with pass rates above 85%.

If you’re worried about your child’s academic performance, personal tutoring in Hoboken may be just the boost your child needs. Tutoring is one of the best ways to provide your child with the expertise he or she may need to catch up to his or her peers. A tutor can help both struggling students and students who are already excelling in school. When your child works with a personal tutor in Hoboken, he or she will be able to interact with a knowledgeable teacher in real time, providing an interactive session that pre-packaged and mass-market study resources can’t match. With a tutor, your child can efficiently work toward increasing his or her learning skills, depth of knowledge, and academic confidence.

Hoboken Test Scores

The chart shown above presents the results of the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) assessment, a standardized test that measures students’ progress in English literacy and language arts and mathematics. The PARCC assessments are given to students starting in the third and continue until junior year and evaluate students’ depth of knowledge in mathematics and communication arts. New Jersey students also take a non-PARCC science assessment. Currently, students are required to earn a passing score on the PARCC to graduate from high school.

Students of any age often thrive with a private tutor, whether they’re preparing for the PARCC, reviewing for a standardized exam like the ACT or MCAT, or wanting to advance ahead of the rest of his or her class. Studying with a private tutor has the potential to increase your child’s efficiency, as he or she will work alongside an experienced educator who’s ready to answer any questions that pop up during the session. The academic boost a learner can get from tutoring isn’t exclusive to elementary and secondary school students, either. Those currently enrolled in college-level courses at one of the dozens of colleges and universities located in and around Hoboken may find private tutoring to be an invaluable resource, too. Tutoring review by Rudy in Hoboken, NJ
The student  has a chemistry quiz tomorrow and a test coming up. The material focused on writing and balancing equations.    She was having a little trouble at first understanding how to predict a single/double replacement equation, but by the end of the session, she seemed to have a pretty good handle on it. We also spent some time on naming compounds and practicing how to balance an equation.  We also spent a little time on the solubility rules because, in the homework, it looks like the teacher wanted the student to know how to label the physical state of the compound.

The student and I read a reading passage, and focused mainly on comprehension and retelling rather than answering multiple choice questions. The student found retelling a little challenging, but we worked on strategies and tips that will assist her in this skill.

Tutoring review by Matthew in Hoboken, NJ
Today, we continued to discuss projectile motion and the problems that can be assessed using this concept. I had prepared some projectile problems this week that were slightly different than ones that we had worked previously in order to help the student see as many different types of problems as possible. Before we actually started solving each problem, we identified the key words and pieces of information that were critical to solving the problem correctly. I had the student work through the problems by himself while I solved the problems on my page in order to see what parts of the question he is struggling in. He seems much more comfortable solving any projectile motion problem. We then discussed some issues that the student was having on the new material that his class is learning involving Newton's Second Law of Motion(F=ma). The student seems quite confident with the new material up to this point. For next week, we will continue working with solving F=ma problems.
