Tutoring review by Ian in Woodbury, NY
We reviewed 4-1 through 4-5. She has gotten very good at using cross-multiplication to evaluate proportions and can even set up those proportions from word problems quite well-- at least in the cases that we looked at when she knew she was dealing with 4-5 and thus needed proportions to cross multiply. We talked a little bit about how all of the sections 1-5 are related and how each one could be used to assist the other, e.g. simplifying fractions doesn't just happen in 4-1, it can be used to make problems in 4-5 a lot easier.

During this session I helped the student with his unit 8 retest. He was struggling with the word problems and adding and subtracting negative numbers. It helped to draw the concepts out on my dry erase board because he relies on mental math a lot. I also tried to talk to him about test-taking strategies.

Tutoring review by Angelique in Woodbury, NY
We went over his most recent quizzes and questions he had regarding how to define a conic shape, and how to transform a standard formula back in to expanded version. When we last worked together his understanding of how to identify the vertices, major versus minor axis, and center was perfect. Most of his errors on his tests where the definitions of hyperbolas and parabolas. This is what we concentrated on for most of our session. I showed him how to use his knowledge of quadratics to plot hyperbolas, and horizontal parabolas. He has another quiz today so I left him with a little bit of practice problems that should prepare him better for these types of questions.

I covered trigonometric ratios, finding the six trigonometric functions for a given angle or point. The student was doing well with all concepts. She just needed a bit of guidance. Her attitude was great, very attentive and receptive.

Tutoring review by Wolfgang in Woodbury, NY
We started with warming up by doing exercises 23 and 24 on page 75 of Deutsch Aktuell 2. The application of the words for postal services found its place with exercises 25 - 27, followed by "Ruckblick", "Sprachspiegel" and "Erweiterung." After that, the new vocabulary for Lektion 3 was introduced and its pronunciation practiced.
