Tutoring review by Candelario in Kings Point, NY
During most of the session, I helped the student catch up with and review some of her homework assignments. Her assignments were on the topic of Parametric Equations and Vector Equations. She understood the material as I explained it and answered all the questions I asked fairly quickly. She is a very good student. She seems to have already understood most of the material before our session. She occasionally needed help to understand how to apply the material to solve the problem. Once she knew how to apply it, however, she could calculate the solution fairly easily.

Tutoring review by Margot in Kings Point, NY
The student hasn't started any new work in her math class yet, so we discussed topics from her Social Sciences class. Her class is beginning to work on learning about the U.S. Constitution. We looked at the document and read through the Preamble, the Articles, and the Bill of Rights. We discussed the meaning of the points included in these sections and the purpose of each section. She should be receiving a study packet from her teacher and we will use that next time to target our session.

Tutoring review by Derek in Kings Point, NY
During this session, we focused on finding the standard form for the equation of a circle. In this type of problem, a polynomial in two variables is given, and the method of completing the square is used to find a perfect square binomial for each variable. This puts the equation in a form where the coordinates for the center of the circle as well as the radius are apparent. Additionally, we continued to review how to solve regular quadratic equations using factoring, the quadratic formula, and completing the square. This should help the student on his upcoming test and retake.

After reviewing his class assignments, the student and I reviewed some of the vocab flashcards we have made together. He retained almost all of the words, which was fantastic. We then added some new words based on the list for the ISEE/SSAT test. Finally, we spent some time looking at two Paul Laurence Dunbar poems about summer, and then wrote our own following the same structure. The student is a natural poet, so it was a lot of fun!

We went over some of the homework problems the student had been assigned, and she had no problems mathematically. All of her issues were minor, such as tiny algebra errors like forgetting to distribute properly. Once we sorted those out, she burned through her problems without issue.
