The topic of our session was factoring the polynomial. After practice, the student improved his performance on factoring quadratic equations. I taught him how to effectively solve the quadratic equation by using the "cross" rule. We will continue to practice the "cross" rule in future sessions.

Tutoring review by Lyndsy in Washington, MO
The student's skill level in basic algebra has improved immensely. Previously, he could not identify a variable and had no beginning idea on how to start the problem. Now, he can solve single variable problems with ease. When more than one variable is present, he can answer the problem around 1/3 of the time, which is an improvement. He also continues to need help with the distributive property often. Today, he revised his math homework, which involved solving inequalities with absolute values and then graphing the result on a number line. He practiced several additional problems from the textbook that were not assigned by his teacher. By the end, he could solve the problem(s) and somewhat understood how to graph the inequality.

We also practiced classifying parallelograms and finding the area of rectangles. We spent the last 30 minutes of our session reading one of the student's books together.
