Tutoring review by Dennis in University City, MO
European student has completed high school math and wants to improve algebra skills.  Covered much material in 1 session: Set Theory, Prime, Rational, Irrational, Fractional, and Real Number. Started to solve basic high school Algebra problems. However student has not had enough experience solving algebraic equations to be able to assign homework.  She needs to have more tutoring sessions focusing on: what are independant vs depend. variables, constants, distributive and assoc. princ. of mult. and how to solve algebraic equations.

Tutoring review by John in University City, MO
Worked with the student over reflections, mirrors, magnification, etc. Much of what the homework was completely new to her. We talked a little bit about ray diagrams, etc. She seemed to get a pretty good grasp by the time we ended and I think she would be able to successfully complete these same homework problems if she had to do them on her own.

The student had not completed a practice test, so we worked on  various study and review activities. She started with a vocabulary lessons. She did well overall, though there were several words that she struggled with using in context. Next, she completed a drill/practice set in Arithmetic/Fractions/Decimals/Percentages. She scored 8/11, or 73%. Areas to work on include factor trees and logical reasoning in word problems. We finished by using the learning software to review vocabulary. She completed Levels E7 & E8 today. I will review these and previous words with her at our next session or the session after. The student should complete a practice test before our next session.

The student and I went over some short answer math questions, as well as critical reading/long reading passage questions. I told her to summarize verbally to me the passages contents paragraph by paragraph. For the reading it is just practice, and more practice. I gave her a take-home essay to do by herself timed (25 mins) and I will grade it and include it in the total score of her practice/mock test. Next time we will begin the practice test, section by section timed.

Tutoring review by Jessica in University City, MO
This tutoring session with the student was prep for her AP Biology exam on Friday. We covered the essay prompts that she could encounter on the exam. For each type of organelle, we found cell types associated with it and talked about how the structure (and placement in the cell) affected the function.  Also, we went over the fluid mosaic model of the cell membrane and how the phospholipid bilayer structure serves a purpose and function. Also touched a bit on integral proteins. As a review, we went over some multiple choice questions in the textbook together towards the end and also did some review on mitochondria and chloroplasts and how the evolution and engulfing of these protists resulted in a double membrane in these organelles.
