Tutoring review by Nicholas in Murphy, TX
Today we covered algebra. The student has moved on to algebra and he has been working on addition with variables. He's been working on word problems that include expressions. So we worked on several of these and we also did addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division problems with a variable mixed in (i.e., Tim has six marbles while Denise has 24 marbles. W = 3 marbles. How many marbles does Denise have in terms of W?). He didn't seem to struggle with anything; he did very well throughout. He needed just a second to adjust to the multiplication and division problems. He had a positive attitude towards the material. In terms of strategies or study skills, I let the student know again that the key to these problems is to use the opposite operation to isolate the variable. I left the student with a couple of multiplication and division variable word problems. Wins throughout. He performed at a high level the whole time.

We covered writing topics such as sentence structure, analysis, and citations. The student had a good attitude toward the suggested changes. The area that seemed to need the most work was sentence structure. We made good progress on the two graded papers discussed during the session. We also discussed an upcoming assignment.

Tutoring review by Abbi in Murphy, TX
This session was a review for a math test, and she worked on test review questions. She did some vocabulary and terms matching on concepts like translation (of linear equations), standard form vs y-intercept form, and other linear equation terms. She worked on graphing a line from given points, calculating slope both from points or from a graph, converting an equation from y-intercept form to standard. We had a couple break through moments where she seemed to really understand the slope and greater understanding of switching between the standard and y-intercept form of a line.

Tutoring review by Jennifer in Murphy, TX
Today's session was dedicated to practicing for the student's test the next day. His teacher had a review sheet online, which included many different topics. First, we completed this worksheet. Next, we reviewed probability, since that was not included in the review sheet. Then, we finished going over the packet I had made for him last time. At the end we made index cards for him to study from and we practiced using them.
