McKinney Tutoring FAQ

How much does Varsity Tutors cost for students in Mckinney?

Finding a tutor for students in Mckinney can have a different price depending on a number of elements. Some of the key factors that can influence the price you pay include the age of the student, the difficulty of the material, and the timeline of sessions.

For example, if your student attends institutions like Independence High School or Heritage High School, your sessions could have a different price compared to sessions for a third-grade student. Additionally, signing up for a larger number of sessions could have a lower cost-per-lesson than if you only purchase a few meetings. The best way to get detailed pricing information is to contact one of our educational directors.

Tutoring review by Rudy in McKinney, TX
The student has an exam tomorrow, so we continued going over the review packets. I started the session by reviewing all the material we covered so far - cell components and cellular respiration. We also reviewed the concepts from her last lab which covered p53 identification through gel electrophoresis. We then covered photosynthesis by breaking down each step, the inputs/outputs, and the enzymes and molecules involved. She did very well as she was able to answer several of the questions that I asked along the way to see if she was understanding the material.

The student and I reviewed for a vocabulary test she had tomorrow. We made sentences with her words, corrected the sentences together, and made a practice test with the words.

The student wanted some help on math homework before we got started on chemistry. She is working on probability in her math class, and I looked at her notes and tried to help her think through her current lesson. We spent the rest of the session working on percent composition problems for chemistry (finding the percent by mass of each element in a compound when given weight or number of moles, and finding the empirical formula of a compound when given percent composition).

The student and I went over her study guide for the final. We also reviewed some of the questions she had for the oral exam. We went over some grammar and I talked through some tips to help her take the test. The study guide was in a much different format than her other tests.

The student  and I went over molarity, some more dimensional analysis, the dilution equation, empirical and theoretical formulas of molecules, and balancing equations. After this session she understood when to use each equation and the difference between the empirical and theoretical formulas, but was still having some trouble with molarity.  She would often try to use dimensional analysis when only the equation for molarity was needed. I tried to remedy this by telling her to think of dimensional analysis as a tool to convert between factors rather than an actual solution to the problem.

Today we focused on getting the student caught up on her reading for Anthropology.  She is fairly certain there will be a pop quiz on Monday.  Today we finished reading chapter 7 and got about half way through chapter 8, which is a very long chapter. We also started making note cards for the key terms for chapter 8.  Tomorrow we will begin studying for her midterm.
