Or you could be searching for long-term help for a student at Independence High School who needs help with reading comprehension or a foreign language like Spanish. Your cost per lesson may go down if you sign up for more study sessions upfront. But the best way to get the personalized pricing information that you want is to contact one of our educational directors directly.

Which tutoring subjects does Varsity Tutors offer for students in Frisco?

Tutors can even help you work on hobbies and passions like drawing, painting, and playing musical instruments. The bottom line is that if there's something you want to learn more about in the Frisco area, there's a really good chance that a tutor can help you do it more efficiently than you would be able to on your own.

Tutoring review by Erin in Frisco, TX
The student's homework was to create a list of living things found in the Brazilian rain forest. We first read a 4th grade reading comprehension article I had brought on the rain forest. As she read each paragraph aloud, we added the plants and animals found at each of the three layers of the ecosystem: the canopy, understory, and forest floor. I showed her how to annotate for meaning and new vocabulary. We also reviewed word families with prefixes and suffixes and added new vocab words to her personal glossary.

The student was preparing for a big end of term exam on electricity and magnetism, and covered a lot of material. He picked up on several concepts (particularly the tricky Lenz's law) quite well, and seems to be overall in good shape for his test.

I had the student complete the English and reading sections on a second practice test. She scored a 22 on the English (the same as the last practice test), and a 27 on the reading, which is 2 points higher than last time. On the English, she struggled with the "reverse" questions (where students are asked to select the one wrong answer rather than the correct answer). She also had some difficulty with appositives, pronoun/verb agreement, and possessives. We also did some practice science passages.

We read 4 Fly Guy books. We focused on retelling, identifying problem/solution, and fluency. We also worked on answering written questions about the reading. We would first discuss the question orally, and then the student would write his answer on paper. Retelling and fluency practice are areas that I plan to continue focusing on. Especially in his retelling, I want him to be able to clearly and independently communicate the beginning, middle, and end of the story in that order, with clear identification of the main characters.

The student and I went through 5 new sight words, 2 of which she knew without much hesitation. The 3 that were new to her were - little, now, came. We then moved onto the reading books and we covered 3. One we co-read and she got through a good number of tougher sentences. Then we did the find the word activity. When larger paragraphs are partially covered with an index card she has no problems at all locating brand new words in 2-3 line text and does excellent with the task
