The student is preparing for a math competition so I helped him with some practice questions from the previous year's competition. It was a mix of word problems for algebra, some probability/fractions, and some percent discount.

We finished working through the practice AP test we started last week. These are multiple choice questions and some of them are fairly tricky. They involve mostly finding limits, differentiating different function types involving several methods, function behavior and integration to find areas. We then moved on to work problems from my AP calculus exam preparation book. These are similar types of problems. We will continue with this next week and maybe look at some of the written response questions from this book. The student is preparing for the final exam and I have a checklist of all the topics to make sure he has reviewed everything. I've asked the student to bring some of the practice problems from school, so we can cover problems more likely to be on his exam final. The student is learning some of the tricks for finding quick and easy answers to multiple choice questions, so continuing along this pathway is useful.

Tutoring review by Kristyn in Harrison, NY
We had a good amount of material to cover this session. We started with a quick review and overview of area equations for different quadrilaterals (kite, parallelogram, trapezoid, etc.) and the triangle. We then worked through some different problems that required using a combination of shapes, lines of symmetry within a given shape, and trig rules to find the required variables (base/height or diagonals) used to calculate area. Lastly, with this section we discussed the how ratios for similar shapes are related. This includes side ratios, perimeter ratios, and area ratios. I gave him a few examples so he could discover the relationship between these ratios for himself. He did well with this section overall and seems to understand most of the material. He will work through left over questions as he has time over the following week. The second topic for this session was radian to degree calculations (pi=180deg) and the relationship between arc measure and arc length. He easily picked up on how to use the radian and degree conversion. He had some difficulty with the arc measure and arc length relationship but he had some homework questions to continue working with the concept.

During this tutoring session, I helped the student with a research paper that she needs to turn in later this week. I helped her with the format of the paper, as well as with the structure. I taught her to do cover pages, how to cite in the text, and how to do a work cited page in MLA format.

Tutoring review by Tran in Harrison, NY
The student and I went over multiplication and division problems using simple algorithm, rectangular arrays and area model methods. I also introduced adding and subtracting decimals. She was attentive and excited to learn, as usual. I showed her how to approach all concepts mentioned above. Last week, I went over expanded form for number problems and today, she completed the problems on that same concept all by herself, without my help.

Tutoring review by Chloe in Harrison, NY
The student did great today! She read her book and didn't know a few words in it, but she was able to sound them out and move on. She read her "Moving" book again. Before she read it, we went over the new words in the book with flashcards and she was able to master them much quicker than she did on Tuesday. She did her homework and her spelling words.
