Tutoring review by Sheena in Harrington Park, NJ
The student said she needed help with her homework from last night, but she was able to explain to me how she learned how to do the problems. It seems that once it had been explained to her, she understood what to do and gave brilliant explanations that showed she was thinking about the problems correctly. We practiced a lot of multi-step fraction problems and reviewed some additional concepts for her quiz tomorrow, particularly improper fractions and separating a fraction into parts to add it.

This was my first session with this student. He stayed focused throughout the session. He has a friendly positive attitude. He strikes me as a good student. This first lesson was mainly to get an idea of where his strengths and weaknesses are and where he would like help. He needs to gain some confidence to talk the language, but he does have the ability to form simple sentences. We did complete 3 exercises from his exercise book which he completed almost without a mistake. In my next lesson I will encourage him to talk more and I will have him read sections from a German book to improve his ability to say words out loud and in one phrase.

Tutoring review by Miranda in Harrington Park, NJ
The student had taken her course review test before today. She also reviewed quadratics and radicals on her own. We went through the problems she missed, as well as the topics she had noted as needing help. Once we went through those, I gave her harder problems in a variety of subjects to make sure she was solid on all the topics before her final. I think she'll be well-prepared as long as she takes the time to check her work for little mistakes.

Tutoring review by Damon in Harrington Park, NJ
The student and I had a productive math tutoring session Monday. Our goal was to do quiz corrections from a recent assessment and to work through his homework for the night. He had done well on his quiz. It was on proportional relationships, and we got through the corrections fairly quickly, though expressing his mathematical ideas in writing can still be a bit of a challenge for him. The night's homework assignment was on algebraic expressions and required him to identify terms, simplify, and solve expressions. Most of this work was not troublesome for him. He will need to review the terms "terms, like terms, coefficients and constants" in order to properly use them in the future, but he was able to use the examples in the book to identify these for his assignment. He did have a bit of difficulty recognizing negative coefficients because the relationship between "minus" and "negative" can get blurry on these problems. He was able to wrap his head around these problems after I drew him a number line that he could use. I was very impressed with his ability to internalize and learn from specific problems. Because certain types of problems were repeated within the assignment, he was able to recall how he had solved an earlier problem (at times without looking back) and use that information to solve new ones. His attention and focus were great throughout! Awesome job!

Tutoring review by Augustina in Harrington Park, NJ
Today was my first session with the student. He informed me that he had a quiz tomorrow on quadratic formulas, so that is what we focused this session on. We worked through over 15 equations and used the quadratic formula to answer the questions. He was unfamiliar with solving equations that had fractions, so I taught him how to think about fractions in a linear equation and a step by step process for solving for x. This session was a great session. I will focus on his areas of need as we continue.
