Tutoring review by Joshua in Old Tappan, NJ
Student 1 and I continued working on equations and inequalities. He picked up the lessons very quickly and was able to solve for variables with minimal help. He sometimes forgets that a coefficient with a variable implies multiplication, but with practice, he will master it in no time. Student 2 and I reviewed angles and lines for an upcoming test he will be taking. He was able to answer most questions in a very short time, so I believe he is ready for the test, and we will be able to move on at our next session.

Tutoring review by Zack in Old Tappan, NJ
Today's session is to prepare the student for his test on Friday over conic sections. He has taken a very proactive role in preparing for today's session. We used a study guide and a recent quiz over ellipses and hyperbolas to identify skills that needed practice. He made a B on the quiz over ellipses and hyperbolas. The primary source of error came from the arithmetic associated with the foci of hyperbolas. He would perform arithmetic for horizontal foci when the problem called for vertical foci, and vise versa. He gets it right when graphing, so our fix to curb this mistake is to always reference his graph. Since today's session was mostly working practice problems and no conceptual explanation, I considered it a window into his test-taking habits. He made more mistakes than usual with positive/negative signs which we always the result of not showing enough work for algebra. I emphasized the importance of showing work. In short, the student is very familiar with the topic. If he is able to show enough work to either prevent minor mistakes or gain more partial credit, he should do very well on his test.

We continued work on fractions and percents. He had an assignment due for tomorrow that we worked on. From the session previously, he recalled the information a lot better today. With a little more practice with story problems, he will be a master! I noticed he was also really good at multiplication. He was able to multiply 19 and 92 in his head! It was very impressive. I see a lot of potential in him to grow in the future.

Tutoring review by Matjaz in Old Tappan, NJ
Today we covered homework on scientific notation and conversion between regular and scientific notation for numbers. The student has excellent command on this topic. Then we covered a chapter on coordinate representation of points in a plane: quadrants, number lines, origin. She did really well on this. Finally, we looked ahead into chapters on representing points graphically on a graphic calculator and chapter on patterns and using variables to represent patterns. She is grasping these new skills with ease.
