Tutoring review by Martine in Bergenfield, NJ
I covered how to write each decimal represented by given models, how to write each fraction as an equivalent fraction with a denominator of 100 and how to order each set from greatest to least. I helped the student to use each spelling word to complete the sentences. Finally, for social studies, she learned the new vocabulary words and reviewed the old ones; I explained the "American Revolution" including the "Battle of Lexington and Concord" since she has a retake this Friday.

Today the student and I started with mathematics followed by Biology. In Mathematics, we first reviewed the student's homework assignment on finding area of irregularly shaped objects. I taught the student two methods of doing so ( Method 1: Divide figure into rectangles, add areas; Method 2: Whole- Parts). The student did very well with this. We then moved on to the student's next worksheet, which was on Volume. We created a study sheet which had names, pictures, and formulas of the 3 dimensional shapes- Rectangular Prism, Triangular Prism, Rectangular Pyramid, cone...etc. We then applied these formulas to questions. The student did very well. We then reviewed evolution terms( the topic of what Caitlin is currently learning in biology): Homologous structures, Analogous Structures, Charles Darwin, etc. Our next tutoring session is scheduled for next week, 5:00PM.

There was a two pages homework assignment due tomorrow on Intro to trigonometry. It was around 13 problems on how to find the trigonometric functions sin, cos, and tan. There were some specific inverse functions he needed to use to solve the problem. During the homework he solved all problems by himself and explained it very well. After that we had extra time left, at this time I opened my computer and we did some extra Algebra 2 review questions together. In the review sheet there were log and sequence problems that we solved on it. He will be taking the final soon. That is why we will do extra reviews on next Thursday as well.

We continued to work on the Math section of the ACT. We went over the practice test I gave the student at the end of the last sessions, and she seems to have made marked progress from when we began working on the ACT. She has a good grasp of all plane geometry concepts, so we've moved on to drilling the trigonometry concepts.

Tutoring review by Rebecca in Bergenfield, NJ
During our session, we first reviewed the student's homework, which are word problems using subtraction and division. Her biggest struggle was problems that required two steps, but drawing out a visual or using the tape-method helped with this gap. In the remaining time, we reviewed long division. She really enjoyed relearning how to do long division and jumped at the chance to practice and show her work!

We reviewed multiple problems in preparation for the student's final. Problems included working with logs, inequalities, domain, vertical and horizontal asymptotes, rational functions, roots of equations, complex numbers, and polynomials in the 4 and 5 degrees. The student demonstrated good understanding and is confident about the final because of all the review that we completed.
