Whether you are choosing to learn German outside of a classroom for your own benefit, studying at Torrey Pines High School or San Ysidro High School, or learning at the University of San Diego, Varsity Tutors can help you enroll in a San Diego German class. Whether you have some knowledge of German already or you are starting as a complete beginner, it is important to keep in mind how many opportunities you will have to communicate in the language, whether through conversations in written word or by speaking it aloud.
Over 90 million people use German as their official language. It is the language of both Austria and Germany and acts as one of the three official languages of Switzerland. German is part of the Indo-European language family as well as the West Germanic group. It belongs to the same group as Dutch, English, and Frisian.
German has many dialects, and most of these belong to the High German or Low German groups. Low German is primarily the language of the lowlands of northern Germany. In comparison, High German is used in the southern and central highlands of Austria, Germany, and Switzerland.
By enrolling in a San Diego German course, you can get some help with any personal goals you might have. This could include the ability to be bilingual in a business industry that is becoming more globalized by the day, the chance to dive into new and interesting cultures that use German as their primary language, or receive the help you need to understand your classwork.
What kind of material will I be learning in a San Diego German class?
You will learn plenty in your German class, including commonly used phrases, vocabulary, pronunciation, and grammar and sentence structure. Your German teacher will be there to help you along the way as you dive into both the basics of the language and the more complex parts of it.
Verbs in German are usually paired with a noun or a pronoun. They relate to either the present, past, or future. You will learn how to conjugate a verb based on the tense. In German, verbs fall into one of three categories: weak, mixed, or strong. Weak, or regular verbs, will follow a specific conjugation pattern, whereas mixed and strong verbs are considered irregular. It will take a lot of memorization to learn which form a verb takes and how it conjugates based on its tense and regularity.
Nouns in German are assigned genders. They are either neuter, masculine, or feminine. To learn what gender a word is, you will have to use different gender markers. This marker is the word "the" in English and translates to "der" in the masculine form, "die" in the feminine form, and "das" in the neuter form. It can get tricky, though, because "die" also refers to any plural forms of a noun.
How does a San Diego German course help me learn?
A San Diego German class is fully online, though you will not have to worry about sacrificing interactivity for convenience. The virtual classroom is fully interactive, and you can participate with other classmates as though they were there with you. Being able to work with other students can help you through some of the trickier parts of German through collaboration, which promotes learning for both you and the other student.
There will be plenty of discussions about what you are learning, and with the aid of a professional instructor, you can get better at memorization and language comprehension. Some teachers may offer to teach the class in German, depending on how comfortable you are with the language. This immersion can help students grasp the language on a deeper level.
If you feel like you need more time with your instructor, a San Diego German course will let you request some one-on-one time with the teacher. This can help you get through some of the harder parts of the German language.
With a virtual setting, you never have to worry about a commute. You can study wherever you feel comfortable. Additionally, you are not limited to having to study at a specific time each day or week. If you prefer to learn during the day, on the weekends, or even at night, you can choose this option. Classes begin on a rolling monthly basis, so you can jump in and get started sooner rather than later.
How can I get started?
If you are ready to begin your German language learning adventure, contact Varsity Tutors to begin a San Diego German course. We can tell you what classes are available, how and when you can enroll, and more details on what is covered in the classroom. With the aid of an experienced German instructor and the interactivity of a virtual classroom and everything it has to offer, you can make the necessary strides in learning German.

...in Physics and Chemistry. I've always been a good test-taker and I know what it takes to get the grades. I know that it can make a huge difference to have some one-on-one help. I like to have fun with whatever I do, but more than anything, I want to make a difference. In my free time I love to play and listen to music or play any kinds of sports (especially ultimate frisbee).

...Or do you simply want straightforward, content-based prep and study help? In either case, I'm excited to help you achieve your academic and standardized test goals. My academic credentials consist of a BA in Political Science and German from the University of Rhode Island, and a Master's degree in Environmental Management from Duke University. I speak German and Spanish. I'm confident tutoring several standardized tests, including SSAT, ISEE, SAT, ACT, and GRE.... I come from a holistic teaching background. I think it's as important to address study skills, test anxiety issues, and self-confidence challenges as it is to teach straightforward material to students. I see what I do as mentoring as much as tutoring, and I live that philosophy with my students.
