As you begin to apply for medical school, you should consider Varsity Tutors as a resource that can connect you with Chicago MCAT prep courses. The MCAT is the admission test used by most medical schools in the United States. Your prospective medical schools, such as University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, may require your MCAT results as you submit your admission materials. The materials on the MCAT are what medical school faculty, residents, and medical students consider being critical to prospective students' success.
The MCAT is the standardized, computer-based test that you will need to prepare to take. Your answers are all multiple-choice; however, the content of each section of the test holds different scoring weight. The total time you are given to complete the entire test is six hours and fifteen minutes. After you include breaks, the full seated time increases to seven and a half hours. You will receive five scores from the MCAT: one for each of the four sections and a combined score. Once both sets of scores are calculated, they are then combined for a total score. Your scoring is the most critical element of the MCAT. You want to do well to catch the attention of your chose medical school.
What are the contents of a Chicago MCAT course?
Your Chicago MCAT course can give you a thorough review of the topics, skills, and sections that you will encounter on the MCAT. Your instructor can also provide extra assistance with testing strategies, give you helpful hints, and other suggestions that will help build your confidence and help you be ready for test day. Your teacher can also use teaching techniques called collaborative learning, which encourages interaction among students. Let's review the material in each section of the MCAT.
The first of four sections is called Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems. As you work through this section, you will encounter ten sets of readings, and there will be four to six questions that follow each set. Along with the passage-based questions, you will have 15 independent questions. The focus of this section of the GMAT includes the function of the human body's tissues, chemical and physical principles that are foundational elements of the mechanisms in the human body, and the principles of living systems. During your preparation, the subjects you should review include general, organic and inorganic chemistry, along with fundamental physics, biology, and biochemistry. Some of the concepts you should be familiar with are the functions of human tissues, organs, organ systems, and how they relate to the laws of physics. Make sure to familiarize yourself with the periodic table and chemical reactions as you will have questions on the exam that include this material.
The second section that we will review is Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills. This section will focus on reading comprehension, your use of English skills, and your ability to use verbal reasoning to measure your analytical skills. Because the passages that you will read stem from disciplines in social science, you will not have to acquire any additional knowledge of material within the career field. The purpose of this section of the exam is to measure your critical-thinking and reasoning abilities. When you work on this section of the MCAT, you will have nine passages to read. After you read the assigned passages, you will be required to respond to at least five to seven questions that relate to the reading.
The third section of the MCAT is entitled Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems. This section will center questions around the original processes of living organisms, the foundational concepts of biology and biochemistry, and scientific inquiry and reasoning. As you prepare to take the exam, subjects you should review that is used in this section are general and organic chemistry and basic biology and biochemistry. The material that your questions will include for this section of the GMAT is the understanding of how cells and organ systems work alone and together to accomplish scientific-related processes, the ability to maintain a constant internal environment, the acquisition of materials and energy, how to respond to environments, and adaptation. Once again, these are passage-based questions followed by independent questions that you must answer.
The final section on the GMAT is Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior. Included in this section are items that focus on the skills that you will need to have to serve a diverse population, along with the ways behavior affects mental health and the ways that different factors impact perception and reaction. Other topics that you will encounter within this section include accessibility to resources and the relationships that compose social-stratification. You should brush up on your knowledge of psychology and sociology. This section has 59 questions that you will have 95 minutes to answer completely. As in other sections, you will be required to respond to ten questions that correspond to the passages you will read. You will also have fifteen independent questions that you will need to answer.
