If you are interested in having your student attend a private school in the Miami area, it may be helpful for you to enroll your student in a Miami ISEE class by contacting Varsity Tutors. The ISEE is a standardized test that many private schools utilize as a part of their admissions process. As such, it may be useful for your student to take a Miami ISEE class for some extra study help as they prepare for the exam.
The ISEE is divided into four different levels, each of which corresponds to a particular grade level. The Upper Level test is offered to students who are entering the 9th grade or above, the Middle Level test is given to students entering either 7th or 8th grade, the Lower Level test is offered to students entering 5th or 6th grade, and the Primary Level is available to students in 2nd through 4th grades.
What can a Miami ISEE class help my student review?
There are a lot of different topics a Miami ISEE class can help your student review. The Upper, Middle, and Lower Level tests all contain five sections. This includes Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, Reading Comprehension, Math Achievement, and an Essay, Additionally, each section has the same number of questions and students have the same amount of time to complete each section on all three levels. The Primary Level test has either three or four sections depending on the grade level of the student taking the test. 3rd and 4th-grade students take a test with sections, which includes Reading, Math, and Writing. Second-grade students take all of these sections, but they also have an Auditory Comprehension section. What follows is a brief overview of the sections involved on each level of the test and what students can expect in terms of topics and skills.
Verbal Reasoning
Students are given 20 minutes to complete the Verbal Reasoning section and they have 40 questions to answer. At the Upper Level, this section focuses on vocabulary at the high school level. It also covers synonyms and suffixes. At the Middle Level, this section covers vocabulary at the middle school-level and parts of speech. The Lower Level test focuses on elementary school-level vocabulary and has students complete sentences based on context.
Quantitative Reasoning
Students are given 35 minutes to finish the Quantitative Reasoning section and they must complete 37 questions. This section is geared toward math-related topics. At the Upper Level, this section focuses on exponents and variables, interpreting data sets, and measuring objects, among other topics. The Middle Level examines the distributive property, geometry, and square roots, to name a few concepts. Finally, the Lower Level test focuses more on basic math, such as division, multiplication, and addition.
Reading Comprehension
Students have 35 minutes to complete the Reading Comprehension section and it contains 36 questions. As the name suggests, this section is focused on reading comprehension. It requires students to read through various passages and answer questions about it. At the Upper Level, students are required to compare and contrast information, identify cause and effect, and identifying the relationships between different literary genres.
The Middle Level test focuses on many of the same skills, but it also examines and literal and figurative use of language. The Lower Level test is more focused on having students identify the main ideas within the passages and being able to locate important information.
Math Achievement
Students have 40 minutes to finish the Math Achievement section and it consists of 47 questions. This section is also focused on math, but it is more about math operations skills while the Quantitative section is more about mathematical thinking. At the Upper Level, this section focuses on geometry, algebra, and data analysis, among other topics.
The Middle Level test is more focused on ratios and proportions, fractions, and prime factorization. Finally, the Lower Level test is more concerned with whole numbers, algebraic concepts, and decimals.
Essay
At all three levels, the Essay section has students read through a prompt that contains a topic of interest to students at a particular grade level. The essay is designed to look at students' skills in terms of punctuation, spelling, grammar, and organization. It also provides an opportunity for students to share a bit about their creativity and personality to the private schools they plan on applying to.
Primary Level
At the Primary Level, 2nd-grade students take a section known as the Auditory Comprehension section. This section contains 6 questions and students have 7 minutes to finish it. Students are required to listen to various passages and answer questions about what they heard. 2nd, 3rd, and 4th-grade students all take a Reading, Math, and Writing section. The Reading section is multiple choice and students answer questions about vocabulary that is considered appropriate for their grade level. The Math section is also multiple choice and has students perform basic math operations. Finally, the Writing section has students look at a picture and write a story about it.

My teaching career includes teaching kindergarten, elementary school, and ESOL to adults. I have also worked with special needs students in residential treatment. Each student has individual needs and it is the tutor's job to discover the key to understand the material. My background includes acting and writing the historical novel "Love and Betrayal."... The tutor has an advantage that a classroom teacher doesn't have because he or she can discover the interests of the child and direct them accordingly.
