The Most Certified 4th Grade Writing Tutors Available

Searching for a 4th grade writing tutor on your own can be difficult. There are likely dozens of teachers in your area who will say they can help.

However, you don't really have a way to verify their skill set or the value they can offer your student. Instead of struggling through this process alone, why not let Varsity Tutors do it for you? We've worked hard to identify the best tutors across the country. We place an emphasis on finding educators who have proven subject matter expertise, adaptability, and approachability. You can contact us to get a list of private instructors who would be an excellent fit for your student's needs.

How much does a 4th grade writing tutor cost?

The cost of 4th grade writing tutoring is dependent upon a few key factors. The first of these is how often you wish for your student to meet with their instructor.

Similarly, how long you want each of your student's study sessions to last can impact your price. Additionally, you may be interested in pursuing some of our group learning opportunities for your student if they learn best in those settings. If that's the case, ask us about how a 4th grade writing class or group tutoring opportunity can help your student unlock more of their potential. Regardless of your student's needs, contact us and we'll help you find a learning plan that fits your budget.

How does online 4th grade writing tutoring work?

Your student will meet with their instructor on our Live Learning Platform. Here, all study sessions are recorded so you can review them on-demand.

The platform also features helpful tools like an integrated video chat and a virtual whiteboard that make online learning easier than ever. Your student's 4th grade writing tutor can focus on whatever part of the writing process your student needs to learn more about. They can show your student how to reflect on ideas, solve problems, and write for specific purposes like informing, persuading, and entertaining. Your student can work through these lessons at the pace that feels right for them and will be free to stop and ask questions whenever they want.

Are 4th grade writing tutors worth it?

4th grade writing tutoring is absolutely worth it. Writing tasks will become increasingly difficult for your student if they don't have a solid foundation of skills to build upon.

Classroom instruction may simply be insufficient to help your student unlock more of their potential. A private instructor can bridge the gap between the assistance your student is getting in the classroom and the academic assistance they truly need to grow. Getting started with tutoring is easy. When you're ready for your student to begin, reach out to Varsity Tutors directly. We'll find you excellent instructors who are a good fit for your student's academic needs and your budget. We look forward to hearing from you.

How can a 4th Grade Writing tutor help your child?

Fourth grade is an exciting time in your child's academic career. While he or she is making great strides in subjects like math, English, social studies, and science, they are also expanding their writing skills. Fourth-grade writing instruction is unique in that it acts as a bridge between the rudimentary, grammar-based instruction of previous classes and the sophisticated analytical arguments that future classes will require. As a result, your fourth-grader will be expected to continue mastering grammatical concepts such as the correct use of prepositions and the difference between active and passive voice, and take the first steps toward learning how to write a persuasive argument that draws on supporting evidence.

Classes may instruct students on how to organize their first forays into persuasive writing according to a template like the five-paragraph essay. Your child's teacher may start to stress the importance of a thesis statement, and challenge him or her to compare and contrast various texts. Every student is a unique learner and may fly through certain concepts while struggling with others.

We read pages 8-10 in the student's math book, and also read more of the Lemonade War. I encouraged him to write down words he didn't know and taught the concept of onamadapia. Most of the session was devoted to a poem that requires "repetition or wordplay". I helped him pick a structure and theme: soccer. We brainstormed, and he used that outline to start writing.

The student and I worked on punctuation, specifically completing an activity in which he had to punctuate a paragraph, reviewing main and subordinate clauses, and doing a few punctuation quizzes. No extra work.

I gave her a story with imbedded vocabulary for her to study and put on index cards. Then I read her a Greek myth and had her write me a synopsis. She did very well. The student and I worked on her sight vocabulary, focusing on parts of the face and previous words from books. Then we went outside and did a hopscotch game with some of the words.

The student first went over her spelling words; she only got one word incorrect. I gave her new words for the next two weeks. We went over the essay she wrote, which she did well on. She is still having some problems with run-on sentences and spelling in particular. We created a checklist for her to use when going over her next two essays due in two weeks. Finally, we went over some material for her Social Studies exam this week.

I worked with the student on staying on topic within a paragraph. We are developing the concept that every paragraph has a main idea (topic sentence) that is supported by a number of detail sentences. I left him with 2 workbook pages. We continue to work on a personal narrative piece.
