Tutoring review by Joel in Swarthmore, PA
We worked on estimation of large numbers. The student had a problem set from his Honors Physics class, and he worked through the problems. His math skills are excellent, and he was quick to pick up on the method I taught using units cancellation.

The student worked on literacy homework and subtraction using missing numbers. She's becoming more fluent with subtraction and multi-digit addition problems with the use of the number line. Sometimes she struggles on tough problems without the use of a number line. We also worked on flashcard game to increase fluency and memorization of common addition and subtraction problems.

Tutoring review by Sabra in Swarthmore, PA
The student and I covered the rules of basic probability of an event happening, an event not happening, and how to figure out the probability of more than one event occurring after another (multiply the individual probabilities together), such as tossing a coin then rolling a die. We went back to area and the Pythagorean Theorem as well. I tried giving her a problem involving finding the area of a right triangle when missing the altitude (which would entail first using the Pythagorean theorem and then the area formula), but she used the hypotenuse as the height. Problems containing an extra step still give her a hard time. We will continue to address these.

We reviewed the study guide and went over the lectures. The study guide was not very comprehensive, so we also went over some other concepts covered during the lectures. The student seems to have a good grasp of the last lecture on the systems, but she should still review them. She should especially review the photosynthesis slides.

We covered graphing rational functions, including horizontal, vertical and oblique asymptote lines. We also reviewed the newest section they are covering in class which was decomposing rationals into partial fractions. The student was able to explain most of the concepts to me very well.

Tutoring review by Coertunay in Swarthmore, PA
We went over some angle geometry today, including interior angles and corresponding angles, all involving parallel lines. The student is getting them better now, which is good since that was the subject he wanted the most help on. We then went over some of his physics, which included projectile motion, and mechanical forces. He is getting the information much better now, especially when I talk about the concepts a little bit more with him.
