We went over more Sentence Error questions in the Writing portion of the SAT. I basically drilled the student on these questions, and he says he is feeling much better about these questions, which seem to occasionally be a problem for him. For the week after next, I am having him complete at least one practice test.

I talked about World War I a lot, and gave the student a couple questions to consider as he continues to read To End All Wars. We'll be able to discuss AP European History topics as we go forward, and work on his writing at the same time. He's making a lot of good connections between his summer reading. I look forward to continuing our work.

We covered the following topics:  (1) how to form the imparfait in French, how it is used, how it is different from the pass?; (2) direct object pronouns - what they are, how to use them, placement in the sentence; (3) indirect object pronouns - what they are, how to use them, placement in the sentence, how they are different from direct object pronouns; (4) the pronouns "y" and "en" - when they are used, the various ways  they are used, how to use them together  The student had some good knowledge coming into the session, so we were able to cover a great deal in the hour and a half, including a thorough examination of the above-mentioned grammar points, highlighting some rather challenging details of these topics.

Tutoring review by Amanda in Springfield, PA
During my session with the student today we began reviewing the basics of an atom. We discussed protons, neutrons, electrons, their size, their charge, and their purpose. She also began to learn about isotopes. We reviewed what isotopes are and why they are important. I went over several math problems with her on how to solve for molar mass based on either the number of protons and neutrons or based on the frequency and weight of an isotope. She expressed a thorough understanding of the material we covered today. Her cumulative knowledge is definitely developing; she even told me that her grade average in the class has improved since we have been working together.
