Tutoring review by Julia in Ridley Park, PA
Unit 9 Lessons 9 through 11 were studied today, continuing with Probability. Lesson 9 presented the Law of Large Numbers which states that the more trials of tossing dice, coins, etc. the closer the outcomes will come to the expected probability. The student quickly understood this concept, as we have discussed it in other contexts already. He scored 100% on the Skills Update and the Lesson Checkpoint quizzes. Lesson 10 concerned Independent and Dependent Events. He scored 100% on both quizzes, and he showed excellent improvement in setting up and solving a proportion, how to change percent to decimal, and how to calculate tip. On his own he is able to find the probability of an event as a fraction. Lesson 11 on Complementary Events yielded two more 100% quiz grades in which he was able to calculate simple interest, set up a proportion and cross multiply, work properly with variables, and predict how units need to change. He understood these concepts and made the correct calculations. He had excellent prior knowledge of vocabulary words such as "dependent, independent" and firmly understands fractions and part over total.

The student and I worked on his Gas Law chapter review packet. He explained to me that his teacher gave a very brief explanation of this topic, and he filled out the information in the packet himself by using the information from the book. I'm glad to see him becoming more self-reliant and studying directly from the book. He understood the material; I just gave him more explanation and examples of each concept. I feel we had a very production session.

Tutoring review by Jeffrey in Ridley Park, PA
We started what will probably end up covering 2-3 sessions on broad overview of topics we've covered before: fractions, measurements, equations and graphing points, and a few others. The student has recently seemed to struggle a little recalling and implementing topics that were previously covered, so we will use the next few sessions for reviewing these concepts before moving on. She struggled a little with the first few examples, but she seemed to "remember" and do significantly better after a few problems to get started.

Tutoring review by Nicholas in Ridley Park, PA
The student and I started out doing a quick worksheet on sines and cosines. I explained them in terms of the unit circle, and he seemed to pick up the concept very quickly, including memorizing the three angles for which values of sine and cosine should be memorized (30 degrees, 45 degrees and 60 degrees). I've begun drilling SOH CAH TOA into his head as well, and he's adapting quickly. We then did most of his practice review test for geometry, and with a handful of small terminology exceptions he seems completely confident and set-up to succeed on the test.

Tonight, we reviewed concept questions I emailed the student earlier today that were a review of previous material. We covered point mutations and frameshift mutations, as well as some genetic disorders. The student's attitude was excellent and positive. I asked her to review all material that was covered tonight. She was also left with the remainder of the study questions that were sent out this morning.

Tutoring review by Michael in Ridley Park, PA
Very good session today with the student! We completed review for her final exam, which is tomorrow. Our main focus was on graphing trig functions (sine and cosine). The main strategy we established and practiced was to pick a starting point, which will be (0,0) for sine and (0,1) for cosine. From there, she has memorized the direction in which the graph immediately travels, which for sine is up and then down and for cosine is just down. After doing about 6 or 7 of these equations, we practiced verifying a trig identity by way of multiplying the denominator by a conjugate. I think she'll be in very good shape for tomorrow's test -- hopefully an A!
