If you are looking for a tutor for yourself or your child in Raleigh-Durham, there are several factors that can affect the price. Elements such as location, the timeline of sessions, and the expertise of your Raleigh-Durham tutor can all change the cost of sessions.

Similarly, if your student attends an institution like Exploris Middle School, finding a tutor to help them with pre-algebra could have a different price than if you need a mentor to assist you as you prepare for a standardized exam like the MCAT. Regardless of your particular goals, working alongside an excellent private instructor can provide great value. With a network of over 40,000 mentors, Varsity Tutors will find a mentor based on your academic, scheduling, and financial needs. This sort of investment in your academic career can have a significant impact on your success in the present as well as in the future. Research shows that students can improve their test scores, grades, and other key academic skills to a greater degree if they work with a mentor than if they study on their own. Because of the different variables that go into pricing, the best way to get a clear picture based on your situation is to contact us directly. One of our Educational Directors can give you a quote that is based on your goals, learning needs, and preferences.

Where can I get assistance in finding a private tutor in Raleigh-Durham?

If you are looking for a tutor in Raleigh-Durham, you have two main options for how to proceed. You could search for a mentor on your own and take care of vetting, interviewing, and evaluating candidates on your own time with your own resources.

On the other hand, you could have us take care of the search process for you. When you contact us, we search through our network to find a Raleigh-Durham tutor who meets your requirements. We make sure you learn with someone who fits your learning requirements and who is available at times that work with your life. In addition to removing the hassle of finding a mentor on your own, we are able to draw from a far larger pool of prospective instructors so you can learn with some of the finest tutors available without having to locate them yourself.

Our Educational Directors will guide you through every step of the process. They learn about what you hope to accomplish during sessions, how you learn best, and any other information that could lead to a more supportive tutoring experience. If you attend an institution like Raleigh Charter High School, for example, they will seek out an instructor who has experience teaching students of your age and who is well-versed in the content you are studying. It is important to note that all students can benefit from learning with a mentor. Even if you are doing well in your classes, a mentor can help you dive deeper into content that interests you as well as guide you in developing academic skills that could be valuable in future contexts.

Are there different styles of tutoring offered in Raleigh-Durham?

While we connect many students attending public or private schools with instructors, we can also help homeschooled students find academic assistance as well. Instructors are able to collaborate with you or the teacher who provides your student's instruction. This means your student can receive guidance that is coordinated with traditional schooling if they attend part-time as well.

Whatever your needs, our Live Learning Platform provides a virtual setting in which to connect with your tutor. Tools like a virtual whiteboard and shared document editor make the live video chat sessions more engaging. Likewise, our Learning Lab is a portal that contains a variety of practice tests, sample problems, and video resources to provide academic support outside of sessions with a mentor.

Tutoring review by Talia in Providence, RI
The student's class had two homework assignments provided by his teacher via an online website. We worked through each problem together slowly so that I could see his skill level in the subject of solving quadratic equations using the "completing the square" method. He and I worked on this skill last semester in his algebra 1 class, so I expected him to remember how to perform this operation. Once we reviewed this topic, he was easily able to complete his homework assignment. There were a few problems on the worksheet that were actually quite tedious to complete, so I did not fault him for struggling with these particular problems. For these select equations, we worked them together step by step so that he felt comfortable working on these types of complex equations. Overall, he did a great job today and seems to be improving his skills in arithmetic.

Tutoring review by Elaine in Providence, RI
The student and I reviewed several homework worksheets. We covered the calorimetry equation (q=mC deltaT) and how to calculate each of the variables, calculating initial and final temperatures, unit conversions, determining whether entropy is positive or negative using moles of gas and phases of reactants and products, calculating the reaction enthalpy using stoichiometry, and endothermic and exothermic reactions. She did excellently on the problems, and she quickly understood and applied the new concepts.

Tutoring review by Christine in Providence, RI
We looked through the student's notes to determine topics he's covered so far - simplifying exponential expressions; factoring equations using the quadratic formula, by grouping and using formulas; finding the difference quotient; and finding the domain and range of a function. After I showed him a few examples of each and helped him through some examples, he was able to complete the problems on his own. He was missing some fundamental ideas from algebra, but he was able to catch on quickly once I explained some ideas to him.

The concepts we covered were finding the zeroes of a function given its factors and determining a polynomial function given its zeroes. The student's attitude toward the material reviewed was perseverant, which was great!
