Worked on a test review for math. Mostly worked on probability and area/perimeter of figures. The student did well on the subjects we covered, but still has problems reading the whole problem carefully to see exactly what is being asked of her.

Tutoring review by Hallie in Massachusetts
During today's session, we spent the majority of the time reviewing the material covered on Practice Test #1.  We reviewed all questions of interest that either posed a problem during the exam or were answered incorrectly.  We discussed some strategies for taking the SAT as well as whether answers should be omitted or if one should venture a guess.  I assigned an essay as practice for next session.  (The student 1 must complete two, as she must make up the Practice Test #1 Essay, which she did not have time to complete.  Student 2 must complete one.)  The girls performed exceptionally well on the practice test.  I encouraged them to continue doing the SAT Question of the Day.  I look forward to next session.

Tutoring review by Ginger in Massachusetts
I introduced myself to the student and asked her which parts of the SAT she had the most trouble with. She said she had trouble with vocabulary. I taught her techniques in sentence completion where she had the most trouble applying vocab. The techniques included filling in the blanks by herself, determining positive or negative associations, and trigger words that tell you the direction of the sentence. We changed the sessions from 1-2 hours starting next week.

Tutoring review by Michelle in Massachusetts
Today, we began to summarize all the things we've learned about the HSPT. If the student puts his focus into Vocabulary, I think he can do very well. With math, he knows all the answers, but just rushes through the problems, so he skips important words, leading him to the wrong answer. For Monday, I have assigned him a practice test out of my study book.
