Tutoring review by Evan in Bonner Springs, KS
The student and I focused on solving problems using mental math. The goal of using this techniques is to prepare him for his time management skills before taking his specialized test. We also touched on geometric properties of the triangle and four sided figures. We mainly did exercises that required him to find angle measurements.

Tutoring review by Chris in Bonner Springs, KS
The student and I spent our first session mostly working on problems. His class is currently transitioning from working on limits to using them in formulating derivatives. He expressed that for the most part he knows what he has to do in problem solving and is capable of it, but sometimes runs into blocks he really struggles with. We took some time during our problem solving to discuss how to potentially get past such roadblocks, mostly through testing ideas without being tied to any particular problem solving method. Overall, he seems to be very capable and should do well in his class once he has spent a bit more time working with the types of problems he is now seeing. I expect that in future sessions we will spend time going over material that has yet to appear in lecture as a preparatory measure.

The student's SSAT test is in 1 week. We did a timed drill today and she scored in the 87th percentile. There were two triangle questions that she definitely had the ability to answer that would have brought her score up to the 93rd percentile. I'm sending a practice test for homework.

We covered z-score problems. The student was struggling a bit with multi-step problems. A lot of the problems were similar, so we were able to review the steps several times. We finished all thirty problems in his assignment, and he was able to do many of them on his own after we reviewed them.
