Olathe Tutoring FAQ

How much does Varsity Tutors cost for students in Olathe?

The cost per session with a tutor for students in Olathe might depend on a few factors. For example, if you're a college student who needs test prep tips to prepare for the GMAT or the MCAT, you might pay a different rate than a student at Blue Valley West High School who is studying for the ACT.

The number of tutoring sessions you'll need can also be a factor when it comes to pricing. A student at Olathe North High School who needs several months' worth of tutoring to pass an introductory math course might pay a lower rate per lesson than someone who only needs a few review sessions while studying for an IT certification exam. If you want a better idea of how much you can expect to pay for private tutoring, you can always speak with our Educational Directors. They are standing by to understand your needs and lock in your quote.

Tutoring review by Neil in Olathe, KS
The student and I reviewed the greatest integer function as well as graph transformations. Both of these concepts she seemed to understand without any significant problems. Also, we reviewed chordates, sponges, segmented worms, etc.  She seemed to understand the biology just fine, but needs to read the chapter on her own before we meet again. She was thrilled to tell me that she got a 92 on her last math test and a 77 on her last biology test. Apparently, these are the best grades she has received in either one of these courses this whole year.

The student and I discussed The Giver, and he showed me a short essay he had written comparing the world of the novel to our world. I asked him to elaborate on a couple of points. We reviewed some vocabulary from the novel and made vocabulary quizzes for each other. I gave him a series of sentences summarizing the first part of the novel and he integrated them into fewer, more complex sentences. We agreed that for our next meeting, he would write a book review of the novel Stowaway.

The student has an Algebra test next Tuesday, so we reviewed some of the topics that will be on the test. I helped explain absolute value to him and gave him practice problems to make sure he understood it.  Next week, we will do a cumulative review for the test, which will be a good way to study the night before.

Today we spent our time finishing the Critical Reading session by going over the prompt with a directed approach, dealing with the passages one at a time, and paying extra attention to the authors' opinions. Then we went over some math problems of varying subjects and difficulty, and I introduced some tricks and approaches to problems that I find helpful. His knowledge of the math concepts on the test is strong, so it's just a matter of speed and accuracy, and these approaches help!

Tutoring review by Caitlin in Olathe, KS
The student and I worked really hard on the Math ACT today-- she missed a lot in the practice book, but she understood the concepts when we went over them. We also worked on guessing skills since the ACT does not punish guessing like the SAT. If she keeps practicing between sessions, the student should do really well on the ACT.

Discussed the concepts of inheritance between classes, abstract classes, and how these pieces of programs interact with one another. Applied this to an exercise by developing a high level algorithm that outlines the steps necessary achieve a specific functionality, as applied to our example of developing a database for a car dealer.
