Tutoring review by Ruby in Ardsley, NY
We continued to study for the student's math final. She did much better this time than on Monday and had really internalized a lot of the things we talked about on Monday. We learned how to work with percentage change, finding pre- and post-tax or discount costs, and a little bit with linear equations. I think she's well prepared for the test.

The student has shown a lot of improvement. She seems to have an understanding of the numbers and manipulation of them. She has started to remember sight addition and is able to problem solve limited subtraction. She is currently being exposed to carrying numbers in addition and borrowing in subtraction, so we will proceed as necessary on Wednesday.

Tutoring review by Terry in Ardsley, NY
In today's session, the student asked for the Theory of Everything, Geometry Version, a complete review of her book in less than an hour and a half. She said this would be her only tutoring session between now and the final, which she had no study guide for at this time. I tried in a couple of different ways to figure out a way to approximate this in a way that would be helpful to her. I introduced her to several popular test prep materials, and we talked about some problems of interest in each of these. She could not identify specific topics she was unsure about. In the end, in addition to the above, I tried to give her some direction about how to use a huge "student handbook" of "extra practice" at the back of her geometry book, suggested she find the hardest problem on each page and try it (so 30 problems), go back through and do 30 more this way, as she has time. I asked her about proofs; she said she thought there might be some on final. I said I would try to come up with some good resources she could continue to work with for comprehensive review and proof practice.

Tutoring review by Manuel Gerardo in Ardsley, NY
For our first session we primarily went over the two reactions (i.e. hydrohalogenation and dibromination of alkenes) and their corresponding mechanisms. The student genuinely makes an effort to learn the material. I strongly suggested she implement flashcards in her study sessions to help with memorizing the long list of reactions. I am very much looking forward to future sessions with her.

Tutoring review by Anjali in Ardsley, NY
I covered area/ perimeter/ volume of triangle, square, rectangle, parallelogram, trapezoid, circle, and cylinder shapes. The student was struggling at first as she was not able to recall the formulas of the shapes. She was doing the work, but she does not want to show her work for the problems. I have to constantly tell her to show her work for each problem. After I provided her the formula sheet, then she was able to do everything nicely and precisely.

Tutoring review by Michael in Ardsley, NY
Today was a very good first session with the student! We spent today working on multi-step algebraic equations. The main points that were emphasized were that one must always do the same operation on one side as on the other, and that the opposite of the operation must be done (if a number is added, we subtract, and vice versa. If a number is divided, we multiply, and vise versa). We went over the multiplication of negative and positive numbers, remembering that if the signs are the same, the result is positive, and if the signs are different, the result is negative. We also practiced converting sentences into equations, reviewing pertinent words like sum, difference, product, and quotient.
