I received my Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Computer Science and my Master of Science (MSc) in Mathematics from Lehman College and The City College of New York, respectively. Growing up, like many other students, I struggled learning math. When I was 10 years old, my mom hired a private tutor to help me with my 4th grade math class. So I know what it feels like to be the only person in the classroom who feels left out because they're falling behind their peers in grasping new material. I get it. This is why I decided to pursue tutoring because I can empathize with students who are struggling, and love to see how, with guidance and support, their knowledge and self-confidence increase. My content focus for this exam has been English (reading and writing) and Social Studies. My teaching philosophy (especially when it comes to standardized tests) stems from my background in athletics. My whole life, I've competed, and what I've learned is this: the harder you practice, the easier the game will be. Daniel Lewis is a strong, passionate, powerful, and successful educator from the New York City area. His foray into education began at the age of 16 when he began choreographing dance numbers at his local church and his high school. That led to his first teaching job at a summer youth camp at age 18 teaching hip-hop choreography for the next three years. By 2010, he turned his attention to being academic tutor thanks in part to his success with children and his stellar grade point average. Throughout his career, he has helped many students improve their math and ELA scores, pass key exams, and used his experience as a learning disable student to inspire others. Daniel holds an A.A.S. in Liberal Arts/Math and Science from Westchester Community College, a B.A. in Theatre Arts/Mass Communication and Broadcasting from CUNY Herbert H. Thus, I have worked with students who were English Language Learners and of whom had disabilities, in which I had to modify and make accommodations to the curriculum to meet their learning, social, and emotional needs inside and outside of the classroom. I'm a former high school English teacher and college counselor from Chicago enrolled at a graduate writing program at the University of Minnesota. I have 3 years of teaching experience, I am a certified Special Education teacher in the City of New York. I have a bachelor of arts in History from the College of Mount Saint Vincent, and i also have a Master of Science in Special Education from Lehman College. My GPA average at Lehman was a 3.4 upon graduation. After graduating, I had also intended on going back to school for nursing, so I took a few prerequisite courses in order to qualify for the program. I have taught in the south Bronx, the north Bronx, and most recently in Yonkers Public Schools.Yonkers Public Schools has a program funded by the city that allows for in home tutoring to be made available to students who were either displaced from school for some reason or students who are new to the district. I was a tutor in this program for two years, and I had complete and utter success. I had one student that had a brain operation that was out of school for 3 months from April until the end of the year. We studied together 3 times a week for her Global History Regents Exam and she passed her exam with a 92 - highest in the district in ages.I take excessive pride in building relationships with my students and their families. It allows the teaching process to be that much easier when everyone in the room has a sense of accountability. I can bring a level of success to your students that will really speak for itself and further contribute to the success the company has already experienced.
