I have tutored many people over the years, starting in high school. While I tutor in a broad range of subjects, I have studied chemistry, various levels of math, biology, and coding most recently. I did policy debate in high school and went to nationals a few times. This translated to me receiving a high score in the writing portion of the ACT and SAT. I have done very well so far at UT. I am researcher that has been published in the field of optics. In my spare time, I enjoy playing basketball, cooking and traveling the world.

I am a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin where I received my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Plan II Honors along with a minor in Biology. During my years as an undergrad, I served as a peer adviser to help incoming freshmen prepare for college-level classes; an editor for both my university's literary journal and research journal; and a Mandarin Chinese teacher for beginning learners. After graduation, I began tutoring ESL students from China and eventually succeeded in raising their English scores by a full letter grade at the end of the semester. With more than 5 years of mentoring, tutoring, and teaching experience, I strongly believe that all subjects can be made fascinating. Gaining knowledge should be an exciting process, not a dreaded routine. Because of this, I try my best to find creative and fun methods of teaching for all my subjects, particularly for my specialtiesreading, writing, and test preparation. Due to my love of both learning and helping others, I am currently beginning a graduate degree in social work that will allow me to both expand my education and aid a greater amount of people. In my spare time, I enjoy reading and writing; playing the piano, violin, and ukulele; pet-sitting kittens or puppies; and trying adventurous foods.

I recently left my post as a graduate student and researcher at Stanford University to pursue a career in medicine. My educational journey has been a long one, but I've always loved learning and that love has kept me in school (whether for better or worse :P) for more years than I can count. Though I don't plan on being a student forever, the time that I've spent preparing for college, graduate school, and now medical school has reminded me of how enabling a strong academic record can be.I've been tutoring since I was in high school and have worked with students at every level of education. I specialize in teaching from a very fundamental perspective and in building concepts from the ground up but also enjoy helping students to "just get done" with their homework. Though I'm particularly fond of math and science, I can provide assistance in almost any subject (from Latin to world geography to art history), and can also help in preparing students for standardized tests such as the SAT, GRE, and MCAT.Above all though, my approach to tutoring is simply about having fun and inspiring students to do their best. Assignments and tests are really just chances for students to demonstrate how much they already know, and allowing each student to shine at his or her brightest is what tutoring is all about.

Hi, I'm a citation master! By day, I help restore buildings; by night, I help students succeed.I have a Master of Science in Historic Preservation and Architecture from the University of Texas at Austin, and a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. While both of these degrees are design-oriented, each placed heavy emphasis on research and writing, public speaking, art and general history, logical reasoning, and a clear synthesis and presentation of ideas. I specialize in grammar and writing technique; study skills and organization; public speaking; reading comprehension; world, US, medieval, and art histories; ACT Reading, Writing, and English; AP English Language; and college admissions essays and preparation.I love conducting sessions as "learning labs" where open and honest discourse is the foundation from which critical knowledge is gleaned. My approach is threefold: create an inclusive, welcoming learning community that encourages and rewards exploration and curiosity; present the course material in a way that resonates deeply with each unique student and introduces them to new ideas each week; and foster critical thinking skills that can be applied in all schoolwork. Instead of recitation or simple coverage of lecture and reading material, my goal is to encourage students to consider differing viewpoints, feel comfortable expressing their beliefs, and reflect deeply upon how their values and learning style can translate to all work, both inside and outside of the classroom. Overall, I believe teaching and tutoring should foster skills that afford practical, tangible applications in other courses as well as in personal, professional, and social realms.

Personal Facts and Style: ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Native English Speaker and No Accent (These are important to some students) Patient and Friendly Like to explain things step by step and write a lot on the white board! ALWAYS open to questions and suggestions from students and parents Background: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I have always enjoyed teaching new concepts to people, whether formally or informally. To paraphrase an old TV series title, I would say "Have books, will travel" to describe my passion for teaching. Of course, now these "books" are often online, and we travel with laptops and tablets. But learning will always be associated with the word books, in my opinion. My experience includes all levels of mathematics, including calculus, business calculus, and multi-variable calculus. I also love teaching the fundamentals such as algebra, geometry, and trigonometry. I am very comfortable in teaching computer-based topics such as Cloud Computing concepts as well as specifics for Amazon Web Services (AWS) Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP). Tutoring Approach: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- When tutoring, I first try to understand the student's specific goals and needs. Maybe it's help with HW. Maybe it's general concepts. Perhaps it's a standardized test such as AP, SAT, GRE. What does the student need and what are his/her goals? How can I help? That's my approach. I try to make sessions interactive to make the learning process interesting. This also helps reinforce student learning. For 1-1 sessions, this is relatively easy to do. For group sessions, I try to ask students if they understand, and I give them time to solve the problems that I present. Subjects of Interest to Me (not a complete list) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Science is awesome right? From the biochemical reactions inside of our cells to the extreme biological adaptations of deep-diving sperm whales to the long distance migration of some birds, nature never ceases to amaze me. I love Biology (especially Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, and Cancer Biology), Chemistry (especially Biochemistry and Organic Chemistry), and Physics (Classical and Modern). I enjoy tutoring in these subjects as stand-alone or as part of the MCAT exam. Current Endeavors ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I am currently working on Machine Learning (ML), and specifically neural networks. I use Python (with the Tensor Flow and Kera packages) and Jupyter Notebooks. I also use various tools in the cloud, and I set up billing alerts and cost constraints to ensure that I stay within my prescribed budget. I am also analyzing data such as my own Apple health data (XML format). There are many tools available for data analysis. I like using Microsoft Fabric along with the Azure Cloud, as it provides a good end-to-end solution.

I am a former high school English teacher with an MFA in Writing from Pacific University Oregon, a BA in English from The University of Texas at Austin, and a lifetime teaching certification for the State of Texas in Secondary English. I spent six years in the classroom and covered all aspects of English/Language Arts. I taught grammar, reading comprehension, test-taking strategies, study skills, writing (including personal narratives, persuasive essays, research papers, creative writing, and essays for standardized tests). I also taught all forms of literature, including poetry, novels, short stories, mythology, Shakespeare, and The Odyssey. I worked in nonprofit education reform and served in an instructional leadership role for a prestigious and rigid alternative certification program. I had the opportunity to work hands-on with new teachers in both elementary and secondary grade levels for both public and charter school systems. I observed, coached, and advised new teachers in their classroom practices, lesson-plan preparations, and implementation of those lesson plans. Teaching is at the core of my unique skillset. I am a well-rounded individual with an ability to relate and connect with students and adults of all ages. This is especially due to my diverse career background, my competitive weightlifting hobby, and my wide love for reading. These things keep me grounded, focused, and dedicated. I love teaching students of all ages and helping them to succeed and to love learning. Teaching requires a unique combination of communication skills, metacognition, patience, and an appreciation for challenges. It is my job to ensure a student can relate to the material, stay focused on the lesson, and discover motivation while working towards the end goal. I want every student I work with to walk away learning something new, to feel a sense of accomplishment, and to experience increased confidence at the end of each session. Finally, I know the best teachers are the ones who understand the importance of being a student themselves. As a result, the more I teach, the more I learn about the subject. This enables me to put myself in my students' shoes and see things from their perspective while also fully understanding the adult perspectives of their teacher and parents. Thank you! Jodi

I've had over 8 years of tutoring experience in different areas, primarily in mathematics and the natural sciences. I began tutoring my mom's friend's children in algebra 1, algebra 2, and geometry while still in middle school. This is the point at which I realized the reward in helping others learn, inciting my passion for tutoring. I went on to continue assisting classmates in high school, ultimately tutoring around a dozen different students while in college. In fact, I even served as a teaching assistant my junior year, helping grade assignments. In my free time, I like to play sports, lift weights, and volunteer. I ultimately plan on attending medical school, aiming for admission in 2018. I'm open to many different physician specialties, but have found psychiatry, neurosurgery, and orthopedics the most interesting so far. Other fun facts about me are that I've been skydiving 25 times (certified), biked from Austin, Texas to Anchorage Alaska to raise money and awareness for cancer research as part of the UT organization Texas 4000, and worked at a haunted house this past October. My teaching approach is different from others in that I do not wish to instruct students as if they were in a class, but by putting it in terms that would resonate most with them. Thus, I strive to not only further your children's insight in a given subject area, but to also allow them to actually appreciate different subjects and how they relate to the world around them. 5+ Years Tutoring

I began my career in education as a bilingual classroom teacher in the elementary grades. Later, I became a principal of many schools that had dual language programs because I knew the way in which knowing Spanish had enriched my life and I wanted other students to have that same opportunity. As a teacher, I loved teaching math to my students because it was so fun to get them involved in talking and learning about math. As a principal, I continued to work with students and even took a class period one semester to ensure that the students were successful on Texas' STAAR test. I also am able to tutor in language arts and Spanish. I have traveled extensively in Mexico and recently lived in Mexico for a year and a half. In my free time, I like to take my dog to the beach, do yoga, read, garden, or just enjoy time with friends.
