I am a graduate from Arizona State University. I received my Bachelor of Arts and Education in Special Education with an emphasis in Emotional and Learning Disabilities. I also received a Master and Doctor of Education in Educational Administration and Supervision. I am currently licensed aa a Special Education Teacher, Principal, and Superintendent in the State of Arizona with an endorsement in English as a Second Language. I have worked in public education for over 20 years mainly in "high-risk" schools and with second language learners. My expertise is mainly working with students having poor executive function due to being neurodivergent or experiencing trauma. However, I a qualified to teach all K-8 subjects, with mastery knowledge in reading foundation and mathematics. Mathematics is my favorite (I am trained in Singapore Math). I believe all children can and do learn. I am committed to researching the barriers that affect learning and working with colleagues to find practical strategies that eliminate them. In my spare time, I enjoy supporting my three daughters towards becoming adults, learning how to play the drums, and taking every and any opportunity to get outdoors when Arizona provides a beautiful day.

I started teaching when I was 14 yo. At that time, my neighbors' kids needed help studying for exams. I tutored them and they all passed their exams. I realized I was able to teach any subject kids needed help with; better yet, students could learn what I taught them. A teacher was born! To get proper training, I went to college and got a degree in English Language and Literature from a university in Brazil. Then, I got a Master's Degree in British Literature from NMSU, Missouri, and, finally, I went to ASU, AZ, for a Ph.D. in Higher and Adult Ed. So far, I've taught children, teenagers, and adults from different nationalities. I've taught both ESL/EFL and British Literature, and my specific areas in ESL/EFL are writing, reading, and speaking. I was a teaching associate at ASU Dept. of English for 6 years and have a lot of experience teaching writing. About what I like to do when I'm not teaching, I like to read and encourage my students to read often. I tell them that a person who reads often, speaks, writes, and understands his language better. If they're learning ESL/EFL, reading much also helps them to acquire vocabulary and understand grammar without difficulties. I also enjoy writing and have written several stories. Finally, when I'm not teaching, reading, or writing, I like to cook and travel.
I have been an educator for 17 years. I have worked overseas and in three different states across the United States. I have worked as a 3-5 classroom teacher, reading interventionist and after school program director for mathematics intervention. Recently I earned my Doctorate from Arizona State University in education with an emphasis in creating social learning opportunities to build students' social and emotional skills in mathematics.I believe that all students are capable of success at all levels of learning. I endeavor to help all of my students develop high levels of academic, social and emotional growth through relationship building, goal setting and celebrating milestones.
In 2012, I graduated with honors from Arizona State University with a B.S. in Biological Sciences, and I plan to apply for doctoral programs in neuroscience next year.I taught small-group study sessions for BIO 101 and 102 as an "SI study group leader" for three years at ASU. I have also worked as a teaching assistant for a college composition course and a biostatistics course, as well as a independant tutor in math, biology, history, and standardized test prep.More than any other experience, the three years as an SI leader helped me grow my leadership and tutoring skills, as well as my love of teaching. SI leaders use the challenges posed by high-risk/high-failure courses to guide undergraduates to discover, not just "what to learn," but also "how to learn." Knowing how to learn and how to obtain information is a skill demonstrated by multiple research studies to predict success in advanced classwork as well as in post-academic careers.I prepared the session plans and created new study materials for my students, which I then used to guide students in the study groups. My goal for each session was to get students collaborating in a focused manner, learning how to teach themselves and teach others based on the resources at hand. As these study sessions were voluntary for students, I might work with 1 student or 20 students in a session - sometimes as many as 100 students would attend before exams!Teaching students how to teach themselves is my primary goal as a tutor. I might only see a student for 1 or 2 hours each week, and I want to make sure they can apply skills they develop with me to the time they study alone. I also love finding uncovering unique ways to help students make their learning relatable and retainable. Understanding is always more permanent than memorizing!
I graduated from Arizona State University in 2018, where I majored in Biochemistry and minored in both Psychology and Biological Sciences. In the future, I plan on attending medical school to become a Developmental Pediatrician.I have a passion to mentor and tutor individuals from a variety of age groups, from elementary to college!During college, I worked as a chemistry laboratory teaching aide where I instructed ASU students about the fundamentals of various topics which included equilibrium theory, thermodynamics, kinetics, electrochemistry, nuclear chemistry, and descriptive chemistry.I also spent some time as an undergraduate researcher in a neurodegenerative lab investigating Alzheimer's disease and learning valuable techniques that incorporated basic chemistry, math, and writing proficiency.I promoted STEM related topics to underprivileged youth by mentoring them using lectures and hands-on activities including neurophysiology, microbiology, and aerospace engineering. In addition to this, I have assisted with teaching elementary students basic science related subjects such as physics, chemistry, ecology and biology through small learning groups.I also have experience tutoring children with Autism, intellectual disabilities, ADHD and OCD.My goal is to understand the individualistic learning strategies associated with those I tutor. It's important to figure out what works best for a particular person so that they're truly grasping the information they need to succeed academically.I consider myself to be a very empathetic, optimistic, and inventive person. In my free time I love to watch movies, play video games, and spend time with my family!
I first began tutoring unofficially during my high school years, as many family and friends needed help with math, and I was one of the older kids in the group. I enjoyed helping them learn new concepts, and different ways to think about problems in order to get them to understand them better and succeed in their classes. Sometime during my college years I signed up with a tutoring company in which I was able to tutor online, which gave me more experience in dealing with different kinds of people that needed my help. Thanks to these experiences I believed I am well suited to teaching various levels of math to different customers.Outside of tutoring I still attend school. I am currently a masters student at ASU, and am usually around the campus doing school work or just hanging out with friends. When I have free time I enjoy playing basketball, going to the movies, and playing video games from time to time.I believe that as a tutor, I will be able to help you understand a concept, no matter how long it takes. Sometimes it just takes a little time a different method of thinking to get a point across, but in time the problem can be solved easily and with confidence.
I am a dedicated second-grade teacher with a Bachelor's in Elementary Education and a Master's degree in Science Teaching. I am passionate about creating engaging, student-centered lessons that foster growth in all learners. I specialize in designing hands-on, non-textbook-based instruction that supports academic success and social-emotional development. Through consistent small-group support and targeted interventions, I've helped students make measurable progress in math and reading, while also creating a safe, respectful, and responsible classroom community.
I am a Psychology major at ASU, graduating December 2015. I have a lot of experience teaching including being a teaching assistant for a psychology 101 class of over 450 students. I created exams, study guides and ran study review sessions.I am very friendly and personable and love teaching all subjects, but psychology is my favorite. I know everybody learns differently and I love figuring out which teaching styles work best for each student. Psychology involves many theories and abstract concepts so I find it helpful to provide real world examples that can help my students really understand. Personally, I learn best when I can receive the information from multiple sources. So when I teach, I like to do the same, taking material from textbooks, power points, silly videos, or even TV shows to further understanding. I also believe that teaching a concept really helps the learning process. I encourage my students, once they have mastered a topic, to try to teach or explain it to someone else. Being able to do this really means you fully understand. When I am not tutoring, I like to go long boarding or play my electric guitar. I love going to concerts and my favorite genres of music are alternative and hardcore. I also have an interest in fashion and photo shoots.
I am Carrie, a teacher and tutor with over 15 years of experience teaching ages 3-65 how to better speak, write, and listen in the English language. My specialties are English Literature and grammar, World Literature, and liberal arts in general, which includes things like psychology, sociology and sciences like Earth Science, or Geology.
I am excited to meet you! As a first generation college student, I have had the great fortune to teach and tutor students from all walks of life. I have been teaching and tutoring professionally since 2002. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in German Language and Culture from Barrett, the Honors College at Arizona State University with a minor in Women's Studies. I hold a Master of Arts in German literature, culture, and sociolinguistics from the University of California at Berkeley where I was the recipient of the prestigious Eugene Cota-Robles Diversity Fellowship. I also hold a Master of Arts in Educational Psychology and Public Administration from Northern Arizona University. I have taught and tutored languages, public speaking, debate, English, and several other topics at UC Berkeley, Stanford University, Arizona State University, University of Phoenix, Maricopa Community College District, Paradise Valley School District, Oakland Unified School District, in addition to private clients.I work very well with students for whom English is not a first language and with students who have a genuine desire to learn a topic. My experience with a wide range of students hailing from different socioeconomic, linguistic, cultural, and geographic backgrounds has shaped my tutoring style to be patient, respectful, humble, and engaging. My youngest tutee was 7 years old, and the oldest was 82. All age groups are very enjoyable to tutor. I don't make up answers and I let my students know if I need to research something in greater depth to answer the 'why' questions. The joy of seeing a student reach the point of understanding a topic which has been difficult for them in the past to be most rewarding.Outside of work, I enjoy cycling, public speaking, politics (I'm a self-professed political guru), hiking, spending time with my children, and working to serve the less fortunate in my community. Most exciting for me is seeing students succeed. I look forward to helping you in any way I am able.
I am a graduate of Arizona State University. I received my Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor in film and media studies. Since graduation, I have worked as an educator, teaching high school English in Arizona; I have tutored children and adults in Phoenix looking to improve in English (as I am a certified Subject Matter Expert), and I have held revision workshops. While I tutor English, I am very passionate about this subject. In my experience helping struggling students, I have remarkable patience and a passion to make students succeed. I believe all students are capable of success, with no exceptions. In my spare time, I enjoy reading that which enriches my life, traveling, cooking, and swimming.
I have been teaching math for the past 5 years. I am an expert in all maths Algebra and below, and am very passionate about teaching. My favorite approach is to explain in various ways and randomly quiz to make sure the topic is known even in the middle of another thought
