I currently attend the University of Chicago, where I major in Political Science and Biology. When I'm not spending hours reading Nietzsche, I'm doing improv comedy and graphic design. I'm currently pursuing a career in advertising/consulting, and in my spare time I eat mini tacos and watch Louis CK stand-up comedy.

I received my B.A. in English and Philosophy from the University of Chicago, where I was active on the debate team. Afterwards, I moved to Boston (my family is originally from New England). I supported myself working as a lab technician while I did some free-lance writing for community newspapers. In 1989 I moved to Atlanta, where my family was living. I was a caseworker for the state of Georgia in Clarke, Gwinnett, Dekalb and Carroll counties where I worked extensively with the Latino, Vietnamese, Bosnian, and Somali communities. I did a lot of volunteer work teaching ESL, an experience I enjoyed so much I decided to pursue a graduate degree, with the intention of becoming a teacher. I was accepted into the M.A. program in the History and Philosophy of Science at Florida State University; my concentration was in the history of biology and religion. While there I assisted teaching classes in history and film, gave guest lectures, organized and taught writing workshops, and tutored students in writing and history on an individual basis. I enjoyed my teaching experience at FSU because it allowed me to combine my interest in history and writing. My students reported that as their writing improved, their academic performance improved in all their classes-- even in the sciences. I think the ability to write well cultivates skills that can be transferred to nearly any discipline. After I received my M.A., I returned to Atlanta to stay with my father, and plan to apply to the library science program at Valdosta State University. I enjoy teaching British and American literature, especially poetry, but my great love is history and the teaching of writing. I love reading and currently have several writing projects I am working on. I used to lift weights fairly seriously, and I am trying to get back into it.

I've taught and tutored math and humanities for almost a decade. While in college at University of Chicago, where I graduated top of my class in philosophy, I tutored math, and I spearheaded a program that taught philosophy to middle and high schoolers. Also in college I took coursesand received top marksin creative writing, argumentative writing, and speech writing. After graduating, I spent a year teaching high school English and test prep in Colorado. I have a deep passion for teaching and subsequently seeing my students light up as they succeed. I'm a hiker, a reader, a giant nerd, and full of terrible jokes that will (shockingly) make tutoring fun.

I am a student at the University of Chicago, and am majoring in Anthropology and Linguistics. I graduated from Whitney Young High School and tutored students there in French. I am currently learning Armenian, my fourth language, and I love tutoring foreign languages because I love helping students discover the ins and outs of a new language and culture. I also have experience tutoring elementary school students in reading, writing, and math through 826CHI's After School Tutoring and Writing Project. I am also a writer and editor, and writing is one of my favorite subjects to tutor because I love helping students master the craft themselves and seeing their writing improve. I believe in working very interactively with students in order to help them discover ways to solve new problems on their own and improve their methods for and interest in learning.

Hi, my name is Sydney! I'm excited to help others succeed in economics. After majoring in Econ in college and taking multiple graduate-level courses, I've learned how to make complex concepts feel more tangible and real rather than abstract or inaccessible. I enjoy approaching topics from multiple perspectives to find what clicks, and I tailor my explanations to different learning styles. Topics include elasticity, revenue and profit maximization, calculating surplus, menu pricing, game theory, and more!
