I am a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, where I completed my Bachelor of the Arts in Psychology and excelled in extensive pre-health coursework. My tutoring experience began in high school when I tutored my peers in Calculus as a member of Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society. Later as an undergraduate, I was employed as a tutor for the Tutoring Center where I tutored undergraduate and graduate students in General Chemistry I, General Chemistry II and Introductory Physics. Additionally, I was an active volunteer of the West Philly Tutoring Project and travelled to a nearby middle school to tutor adolescents struggling with Geometry and Statistics.I am certified to tutor Elementary Math, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-calculus, Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physics and all subjects of the MCAT. Although I enjoy tutoring all my subjects, Chemistry is my favorite to teach. Since I have completed countless lecture courses and lab courses, and was employed at an organic chemistry lab; chemistry material has become second-nature to me and truly a joy to teach! As an experienced tutor and aspiring physician, my passion for tutoring stems from the similarities between the tutoring process and the healthcare process. Similar to a doctor and patient, a student presents with a problem, the tutor encourages improvement and explains an effective solution to the student, and like a patient, the student soon triumphs over their academic impediment! I tune in to the specific needs of each of my students. I am easily relatable, friendly, patient, motivating and communicate solutions efficiently. In my spare time I enjoy bike-riding, singing, choreographing dance moves, arranging music and watching comedies with friends.

I have eight years experience teaching French in public high school and middle school environments. I have worked with beginners and intermediate students, as well as students in advanced levels of French.I enjoy tutoring one-on-one, because I am able to focus solely on the needs of one individual. As a school teacher, I have been amazed at how effective one or two private extra help sessions can be for the student who has been struggling in the larger class environment. I believe that I explain language concepts clearly and in a way that students of all skill levels can understand. My students have told me over the years that I am a patient and encouraging teacher and that I make learning French fun. I love helping students realize that they CAN in fact learn French, even if they thought they couldn't! One of my 9th grade students once wrote the following to me: "You are one of the most positive people I have ever met, and you taught me never to give up. You always have a HUGE smile on your face, and that is why I look up to you and why you are one of my role models."

I hold a Master's degree from the University of Pennsylvania in developmental psychology (with a focus on cognition) and a B.A. from Swarthmore College in theatre and English. I enjoy working with students who are looking to improve their executive function skills as a part of their overall goals for tutoring because I believe in a whole-self approach to time management and skill building. I also thoroughly enjoy tutoring in English literature, high school and college writing, organizational skills, and standardized testing. I've spent 15 years teaching high school English, public speaking, and written expression at elite independent schools, while moonlighting as a public speaking coach. My professional experience includes providing speechwriting and coaching for a now-US Senator during his first congressional campaign. Prior to becoming a teacher, I worked as a director for multiple professional theaters, and my passions for English and Theatre converge in a deep love of Shakespeare. Hello, my name is Sarah and I am excited to be tutoring. In my experience teaching, I have learned that empowerment in a subject is a combination of efficient guidance from me and a willingness to improve from my students. By signing up for tutoring, students are already taking the first step to mastering whatever areas in which they may be having difficulty. I won't do all the work for my students but I will never leave them to figure out everything by themselves, as that defeats the purpose of a tutor. I will constantly assess understanding during the learning process, thus gradually giving my students the confidence that they have moved into deeper understanding of material. With the right instruction, everyone is capable of overcoming those problem subjects, and I am happy to help along the way.

I am a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, where I received a Bachelor of Arts inBiology (with a Neurobiology concentration). In high school, as a member of the National Honor Society, I was involved in peer tutoring. I would arrive to school early one day a week and tutor students that needed help with a class (any subject). I can tutor math - up to and including calculus I (AP Calculus AB), biology, chemistry, organic chemistry, and physics. Additionally, having taken both the SAT, SAT Subject tests in Math and Biology, and the MCAT. I can tutor students for these tests as well. My favorite subject to tutor is biology; I find it to be the most interesting science because it deals with life and how living things function (my goal is to go to medical school, so I have a great deal of interest in living things). I like to incorporate real life examples as well as demonstrations into my tutoring to help students better grasp concepts, especially ones that are more abstract (for example, using the analogy of water slides to explain flow dynamics in physics or using different color Skittles to explain mitosis/meiosis in biology). Also, especially for tests like the MCAT, I can talk about the actual test – what to expect on test day, any preparations to make going into the test, what to do the day before the test. I am a huge sports fan, and in my spare time, I love watching and playing sports (I played football in high school and currently play roller hockey). I am a huge fan of all Philadelphia sports teams. Additionally, I like to read, hang out with my friends, watch TV/movies, and occasionally play video games.

Hi! Welcome to my page! My name is Sean Gawronski, I'm from Cincinnati Ohio, and am actively studying linguistics and computer science at the University of Pennsylvania. Beyond school, I am actively training for and exploring careers in artificial intelligence with a particular focus in machine translation and speech recognition systems. In my free time, I'm a huge sports buff, foodie, and a yogurt connoisseur! In the past, I founded and headed a student tutoring program that spanned across high school STEM, English and foreign-language subjects. With Varsity, I am continuing teaching those high school level concepts, as well as carrying my personal experience with standardized tests like the ACT, SAT, and Advanced Placement exams. Beyond course material, I also work with students with applying to college. The internet is a place full of information and tips regarding applications, essays, and long-term prep: some is helpful, but much of it isn't. As someone who has freshly gone through the admissions process, I am passionate about using my experience to help students pursue their dream schools and scholarships. In regards to my teaching style: I make an active effort to integrate my experiences as a tutor alongside those as a student and a mentor into my teachings. Whether searching for a tutor for yourself, your child, or your student, I know how difficult it can be to find someone you can trust is knowledgable and an effective teacher. Thats why I focus not only on helping students improve their proficiency level, but also prioritize fostering a relationship with the material that helps them feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and builds confidence in their ability to learn. In sessions with me, you can expect to focus on mastering the conceptual understanding of material before moving to progressive applications of the concept. Of course, there's so much that goes into learning beyond rigid structures and practice problems. Every student is unique and learns differently, so as we spend sessions together, I tailor study sessions to best assist your progress: keeping what's working, and mixing up what isn't. Whether your goals are improving test scores, working through classroom material, or building successful college applications, I have no doubts our sessions can help move you in the right direction. I look forward to meeting you and our first session together!

I graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Pennsylvania in 2015 with a B.A. in Biology and minors in both English and Creative Writing. During this time, I also gained experience tutoring a student in Reading at an elementary school in West Philadelphia. After my undergraduate career, I took a position with Teach for America in sunny Phoenix, Arizona. I taught 6th and 7th grade mathematics in a Title I middle school in Phoenix for two years. I also earned my M.Ed. in Secondary Education from Arizona State University during this time, and I graduated in Spring of 2021. While most of my experience is working with middle school students, I am certified to teach math between grades 6-12. I have worked with all kinds of learners, including students with IEPs and Emergent Bilingual students. My Teach for America training fostered within me a student-centered approach to teaching. As a teacher, I strive to make content engaging and relatable for my students. My number one priority is to make students feel comfortable. No mistakes are bad mistakes. I teach with the goal of developing understanding and confidence with the material, for all my students. In working one-on-one with students, I believe that it is also important to get to know individuals' learning styles and preferences so that I can meet their unique needs. As someone who has worked with students struggling in math, and has struggled in math myself, I know that sometimes you just need to hear or see something explained in a different way in order to understand it!I love math as a subject because once a student understands how to do something in math, they feel accomplished in a special way, and they can translate that understanding to other problems/concepts. My first math tutor was my dad; when I was in elementary school, he used to check over my math homework for mistakes. If I missed something, he would flag the problem and we would go back and find where I went wrong. Eventually, I began to check my own work, which continued to be a helpful habit on tests throughout high school and college. In my free time, I enjoy doing anything outside, especially hiking and backpacking. I also enjoy reading fiction, cooking, and listening to podcasts.

Growing up, most kids are defined by the sports they love to play or the instruments they like to play. Some kids love to sing, act, dance, draw, paint, or participate in other activities. I, however, was always defined simply by my love of learning. I started reading Harry Potter when I was five years old; I was the only child in my Kindergarten class to have private advanced math lessons. When I was unable to sleep, I read trivia books and fun fact encyclopedias. None of this is to brag about my intelligence, rather to demonstrate that all my life, I have had a passion for knowledgeto learn as much as I can. As a tutor, I want to inspire that passion in other children.I attended a competitive private high school, so I am no stranger to people getting tutors in order to succeed. An ambition to accomplish any academic goal was encouraged all my life; thus, I am accustomed to studying hard on top of participating in countless extra-curricular activities. I graduated highs school and received a diploma from the extremely rigorous International Baccalaureate (IB) program, and began attending an Ivy League college, the University of Pennsylvania, in 2016. With all this said, I am confident that I will be able to teach clients effective ways to solve any problems they have.As a freshman at the University of Pennsylvania, I am looking to major in communications. My primary interests are in journalism and the entertainment industry. I love writing, and I write for my schools arts and culture magazine. Additionally, I love to watch movies, travel, eat, and talk about pop culture. If theres one thing to take away from this statement, its that I am the most dedicated and hardworking person I know. I always make sure to be prepared and friendly for any job I have to do, and I intend to do the same here at Varsity Tutors. I look forward to working with anyone and everyone who wants to learn and improve as much as I do.

Past students of mine have gotten into NYU, UMich, and Georgetown. In my experience helping struggling students prepare for Standardized Tests, we always seem to have the most fun (with remarkable advancements) prepping for the Critical Reading and Writing portions of the exams. I graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 2013 where I received a Bachelors of Science in Economics with a concentration in Marketing. I currently live and work in NYC after a brief stint in Boston. I am studying to take the GMAT so I understand the frustration that students studying for the SAT may feel.As a tutor, I focus primarily on Math as that was always my strongest area of study. I scored above the 95th percentile on the Math section of the SAT. I have previous experience helping students to increase their performance on that area of the test. I enjoy helping students to understand topics where they have previously struggled. It is rewarding to see them finally grasp a topic that they were finding difficult or watching their SAT scores increase after learning some strategies. As the oldest child in my family, I have always been around children anywhere from 6-14 years younger than I am. I enjoy working with younger students and I have the patience to go at their pace.
