I'm Lorenzo! I'm a rising senior at the University of Pennsylvania studying engineering and education. Teaching has been a lifelong passion and in school I am a part of multiple tutoring organizations in the Philadelphia area. I am passionate about math and science (especially computer science), as they form a basis of thinking that can help in every other subject. I also thoroughly enjoy teaching Writing, English, and History because their applications are so useful in the real world. Other than my abilities, I bring positive energy and attitude that is great for any student.

I love to teach. Education and learning have always been at the center of my life. I graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a B.A. in Biological Basis of Behavior. I graduated from Rutgers University with an M.B.A. in Finance. I also have an M.S. in Business Education, from Robert Morris University.I've reaped rich rewards from the opportunities learning has afforded me. After years earning a good living in the business world, I decided it was time to give back. So, I went back to school to become a certified Teacher.I love helping students make abstract concepts concrete. So subjects like Algebra, Geometry, Computer Programming, Finance, Marketing, Economics, in addition to other subjects, have been very fun for me to teach. In turn, I have been amply rewarded day after day by my students, who have taught me so much.My teaching style is built upon a foundation of trust and understanding. My students learn best when they feel confident and can trust that everything will turn out fine. I teach them by connecting their strengths and experiences to the new learning challenge before them. I help them to focus on what they already know as a platform for new learning. I make the uncertainties less threatening and the certainty of success more compelling.

I have been involved in peer tutoring all throughout high school and am currently also a tutor with the West Philadelphia Tutoring Project. I have found that tutoring is such a fulfilling way to help others succeed while learning new information myself. It also allows me to build new and lasting relationships with those I work with, which is something I have come to value.Outside of school/work, I enjoy dancing, reading, listening to music, and hanging out with friends.

Current Undergrad Student, Music University of Pennsylvania
9+ Years Tutoring

I am a junior at the University of Pennsylvania pursuing a B.A. in music and minors in both Theatre Arts and Political Science. I taught beginner piano and music theory for three years before attending college. Additionally, I tutored peers throughout high school while in the National Honors Society. I volunteered as an assistant music instructor at Horizons Day Camp and was a theatre instructor at a local day camp. Although music and theatre account for most of my studies in the past two years, I have a vast interest in nearly all subjects. Writing and literature has always been a passion of mine, in terms of literary composition, not just music composition. I was on the staff of my high school's newspaper for four years and was its Editor-in-Chief in my final year. Reading is one of my favorite past times. I truly enjoy teaching and tutoring. Helping a student or peer reach his or her educational goal is an incredible journey for both parties.I believe that large steps of improvement take time, patience, and commitment. At the same time, I know that learning should be enthralling and fun, not boring or dreadful. With the right match of a tutor and student, learning will be simple.

Teaching is my blood; both my mother and grandmother were teachers. There's nothing that makes me happier than that 'aha!' moment - when my student understands something he/she would not have without my help. When my sisters and I came home from our school in the Bronx we had to complete 'Mom's homework' after our own schoolwork as a matter of course. 'Mom's homework' was our way into the best private schools in the northeast. My own children - my autistic son and my intellectually gifted daughter - did 'Mom's homework' as well, which enabled them to reach their own intellectual bests.I believe that children have exactly one chance at a good education track. A good tutor can hone skills that might not have been properly nurtured in the usual academic setting.I've been teaching and tutoring in many different situations and I've developed some unique teaching tools that will engage your child and help him/her sharpen the English skills necessary for test taking or general writing.
