As an educator, an individual is required to fill various different roles in order to provide students with the most effective education possible. I went on to complete my internship and residency in internal medicine at The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. I continue to live in New York and am now completing a fellowship (speciality training) in gastroenterology on Long Island.I have extensive experience tutoring for the SAT and ACT but I also tutor high school and college math, science and history courses. My teaching style focuses on clear and thorough didactic teaching to ensure that you, the student, understand the concept and then follow that up with many practice problems to ensure mastery of the topic. I believe that only through practice will you master the skills needed to succeed and excel in your school work or on the standardized test you are preparing for.I have worked very hard throughout my (very long) education and training, but I have also enjoyed learning at every stop along the way. I am a third-year MD/MPH candidate with a long-standing passion for tutoring, which I began in high school. I graduated summa cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania in 2021 with a B.A. in Neuroscience and minors in Chemistry and Psychology. During my time at Penn, I served as the head teaching assistant for the introductory biology course (Bio 101), where I gained extensive experience in developing practice questions, presenting material through multiple teaching modalities, and tailoring instruction to diverse learning styles. I have a Masters in Creative Writing from Cambridge University. I am a writer, and I love to teach writing as well which, I find, is often harder than it is assumed to be. Especially if the aim is to write with clarity and impact, there is much to be mindful of, even something as seemingly straightforward as the placement of commas. In fact there is no such thing as a piece of writing which cannot be improved, it's just that we have decide, in the interest of time and sanity, when it is good enough! I have also worked as an ESL instructor in a LINC program. Additionally, I am a teacher candidate in a BEd After-Degree program, and in that capacity I have taught multiple subjects to Elementary schoolchildren in a Canadian classroom, including Writing, Math and Science. In particular, I enjoy teaching Math to youngsters, because I can see the difference when they realize Math is not at all a fearsome beast, but rather something full of creativity and even joy. I believe strongly anyone can be great at Math. When I have the time I like to read, swim, practice my French, and play piano and squash.

I am a graduate of Syracuse University, with a BS in bioengineering. I am pursuing my MS in electrical engineering at the University of Pennsylvania. I spent my senior year tutoring student athletes in calculus and physics, and currently tutor physics and high school mathematics at a private tutoring center. I'm passionate about the subjects as I teach, and believe mathematical literacy is a critical component to success. Any student can become successful in math with the proper instruction and perspective!

Hello, my name is Sarah and I am excited to be tutoring. In my experience teaching, I have learned that empowerment in a subject is a combination of efficient guidance from me and a willingness to improve from my students. By signing up for tutoring, students are already taking the first step to mastering whatever areas in which they may be having difficulty. I won't do all the work for my students but I will never leave them to figure out everything by themselves, as that defeats the purpose of a tutor. I will constantly assess understanding during the learning process, thus gradually giving my students the confidence that they have moved into deeper understanding of material.
