The asking of questions during the instruction, and the subsequent responses, can help bolster understanding as well as illuminate areas that may need deeper explanation. The understanding of chemical concepts and not just the ability to pick a correct answer is my main goal in my instruction. This can be best incorporated during instruction by the repeated question of “why,” and via increased writing within the curriculum. I believe that relevancy and non-traditional learning methods are imperative to bringing a fresh perspective to a subject that I really enjoy teaching.

Calculus is such an elegant subject, and opens a whole new world to students. Applying calculus to physics enables students to see the beauty of physics. I fell in love with physics in high school, but it wasn't until I took calculus-based physics that the elegance of the field hit home for me. I strongly believe that the goal of teaching and tutoring should be to give students the tools to educate and think critically for themselves. As a tutor, my goal is to complement the teaching students are receiving elsewhere and fill gaps in students' understanding of the subject. In the end, my goal is to enable my students to progress and succeed without my help.Of course, everyone has interests outside of the subjects they're teaching or studying. I love spending time with my wife and two young boys. I also love reading, particularly science fiction and fantasy, and I love playing tabletop roleplaying games.

My education at The Brooklyn Latin School provided me with a strong foundation in International Baccalaureate (IB) subjects, including English, Mathematics, and Computer Science, while my academic, professional, and research experiences have strengthened my skills in critical thinking, problem-solving, data analysis, and communication. I have a wide range of interests across the social sciences and humanities, and I enjoy exploring how historical and social forces shape individuals and societies. Teaching has remained a constant passion throughout my journey, as I particularly enjoy helping students build confidence and develop their skills in reading comprehension, writing, mathematics, and critical thinking. Hello! I am Elsa! I am a Senior at Vanderbilt with aspirations to be a Pharmacist and Public Health official in the future in my home country of Ethiopia and other developing nations. I enjoy working with students of a variety of backgrounds and truly seek to ensure the student has confidence in the area they desire assistance in. The student's understanding and self-esteem are my priorities. I have experience tutoring 4th graders in math and reading and college students in Calculus-based Physics and many ages in between. As a Chemistry major, I have a wide breath of experience in math and the natural sciences.
