I currently live in Glendale, AZ, and work with special needs students. For my undergraduate studies, I majored in Religious Studies and Theology. After finishing my Bachelors, I moved to Boston and completed two Masters Degrees in Religion, Philosophy, and Ethics at Boston University. I have taught classes, tutored, been a Teachers Assistant and a Research Assistant at two different graduate Universities. I am primarily interested in Religious Studies and Philosophy, but I also love to tutor literature, writing, special education, and research methods. Whenever I tutor, I make sure it is a fun and enjoyable experience. After all, who wants to be bored and frustrated when doing homework? Outside of education, I enjoy art galleries, poetry, playing guitar, and reading a good book.

Hello everyone! I have been tutoring people, both in elementary school, and in high school, since I was in high school myself. I continued to tutor students in college in biology courses. I enjoy tutoring other students because I like being able to teach the knowledge I have learned in my classes to others so that I don't forget anything and can also pass it down to others.

I have always been a motivated learner, and this has ultimately helped me to be a motivated teacher. By receiving a well-rounded education, I believe that a person is made more able to meaningfully interact with the world around them. Math and science help us to understand how the world works, while English and literature help us to communicate with one another both in the present and in the past, and history helps us to see where we, as a species, have come from. Education can help us to see beauty and value in the world around us and in the path that brought us here, but also to see the road ahead, how much work is yet to be done, and how we start to do that work. To me, nothing is more important than learning, growing as a person, and helping others to do the same.

I am a graduate of Boston University. I received my Bachelor of Science in Human Physiology and my Master of Public Health with focus on Health Policy & Management.I currently manage a medical practice at one of the country's largest hospitals. I have extensive tutoring experience from the grades K-12, as well as college level. I am a social sciences and writing teacher in both training and by passion. I have worked for Princeton Review and PrepNow as an SAT tutor, and did private tutoring in SAT and English as a Secondary Language for six months last year.In all of these ventures, my favorite aspect of the vocation has always been the "question," the moment when a student pauses, sits befuddled for a second or two, then either is able to pinpoint exactly what is keeping him or her from moving on or making a poignant observation in the form of a question. What is so wonderful about those moments is they are when learning is truly happening. The results often come in two types. The first is the "a-HA!" moment that teachers crave; this is when new information fits comfortably among what is already established in our understanding, or what makes two seemingly unrelated pieces connect. The second is a feeling of distress. This is when a new piece of information or framework for looking at the world feels uncomfortable because our brain is struggling to find a place to categorize that information into what we already know, or new information contradicts what we thought we knew. Both reactions are necessary for learning, but the latter sometimes gets lost in embarrassment, uncertainty, or the swiftness of the classroom. I think that what makes a great teacher is not only giving space for those types of uncomfortable moments and not only being able to address them effectively, but giving encouragement to students to both admit to and encourage those types of sensations. Without feeling confused once in a while, how is one ever to know that he or she is learning?

I am a graduate of both Florida Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Boston University with a Master of Science in Physics.During my time as a graduate student at Boston University I worked in both classroom environments and one-on-one with physics students, as well as in the classroom with the Graduate STEM Fellows in K-12 Education (GK-12) program. As a BU Teaching Fellow I was responsible for leading discussion groups, working with students individually during office hours, and as a GK-12 fellow I spent a semester teaching with a high school physics teacher in the classroom.Because my physics background entails studying a wide variety of math backgrounds I am qualified to tutor most subjects in both math and science. I most enjoy teaching calculus and physics because I find it beautiful how well they integrate with and play off of each other. Calculus is the language that describes physics, and a large part of physics is calculus applied to the world.I like to begin engaging with students by seeing what stumbling blocks they are facing educationally and then finding ways to communicate and work through these ideas and processes. I think that understanding subjects like math and science can help you open up new pathways of understanding in the world, as well as improving critical thinking and problem solving.In my spare time I like to go cycling, rock climbing, and play billiards. All three of these activities I use as avenues to find and deepen my own focus. The bicycle is a device that is meant to make life easier, but allows the rider to make the experience as physically challenging as possible. I am currently a postdoctoral associate at Yale University conducing research in genetics/neuroscience. Throughout the years I have had many opportunities to interact with and train students. Specifically, as a graduate student I have had experience as a teaching assistant for general biology and advanced genetics lab courses, and have also tutored high school students in AP chemistry. I received a BA in Philosophy from Boston University and a JD from Columbia Law School. After my sophomore year at College I taught a history class in India. While studying for the LSAT I gave my friends informal tutoring sessions. I have tutored all multiple choice sections of the LSAT formally since July 2015. The LSAT does not require a great deal of memorization. It requires a solid understanding of a few basic principles of interpretation and reasoning. It also requires good methods for representing and applying those principles. I can help you solidify your understanding of those principles and hone your methods. During sessions, I usually take an official test question as a point of departure. I stress the ways in which the question reflects general themes and the ways in which the methods used to solve the question can be applied to other questions. It is important to recognize patterns readily but to work out the solution with patience and caution. My primary hobby is classical music. I taught myself to play the piano and to analyze musical scores. I also like to read about philosophy, science and history. When I am too tired to do anything demanding, I like to watch TV shows: 'The Wire' 'Better Call Saul' and 'The Sopranos' are my favorite dramas. 'Veep' 'The Office' and 'Seinfeld' my favorite comedies.

The reason I want to be a tutor is because I like to help students achieve success in a difficult subject such as math. I want to show them even though it is a subject of great difficulty, math can still be learned. To learn math is to learn the approach and steps to the problem. The most important thing is to understand why the approach is taken this way or another way. Math is an interesting subject as there are many routes to solve a problem. My goal is to show the quickest/efficient way for students to understand easily and sometimes I will create inventive ways to help students possibly memorize formulas or solve the problems. I hope with each session that each student can learn at least on tip/strategy/concept of the math topic being taught. With that said, the same can be done with chemistry. Chemistry is about a quarter memorization, but more importantly three-quarters understanding. Once any student understands the concepts of a chemistry topic, memorization becomes easy. With chemistry, I will often relate the concept to real life so this way understanding can be much easier. My goal is to definitely guide each student to the desired grade he or she wants.

I am a 2015 graduate of Boston University, having received a BA in Biology with concentrations in cellular and molecular biology with genetics. During my enrollment, I participated in graduate level classes at the medical school, participated in on-campus research, and completed my studies after just 3 years. I've always had a love for biology but that is not my only area of specialty. Math studies from elementary levels through calculus are one of my strong points as well. I am currently a graduate student enrolled at Boston University's Wheelock College of Education and Human Development where I am receiving my MAT in English education. Through the program, I am student teaching at Boston Green Academy where I teach AP Literature, AP Language and 12th grade English Language Arts. I received my Bachelors Degree from Boston University in 2012. I graduated as a major of Biology specializing in Ecology and Conservation. I am currently attending Northeastern University School of Law and working towards my Juris Doctor and my Masters in Environmental Law and Policy. Throughout my years at Boston University, I tutored as a Biology Mentor in the Student to Student Mentorship Program. I also worked as a teaching assistant at a local daycare for over seven years. At the daycare, I worked with children from the ages of six weeks to six years. The facility I worked for was credited and licensed as a full pre-school and kindergarten with the necessary curriculums. Thus, I have years of experience helping younger children learn the basics that will become the foundation of their learning in life. My favorite subject to teach and tutor is Science. Although I specialize in Biology, I have much experience with the other sciences as well. My teaching philosophy changes with the age group I tutor. For older students, I work on building confidence in the subject and help with the memorization-heavy like Biology. I excel in helping students not only learn the information, but also in helping them input the information to memory for exam time. For younger students, I focus on building the student’s confidence in learning in general, as well as the subject they are working on. A younger student is learning for the first time, and the process can be intimidating, especially if his or her peers are learning at a rate different from their own. If a younger student associates learning with a negative experience early in life, their learning and their outlook on school will be negatively affected. Thus, I find it very important to instill a positive attitude about learning at an early age. In my spare time, I enjoy running, practicing yoga, sketching and playing music. I first became interested in tutoring in high school, where I found myself helping friends in anything from AP Literature to the math portions on the SATs. In my experience, working one on one with people has been incredibly rewarding, as it allows for a deeper level of communication between the tutor and the tutee. I began tutoring more formally when I started attending college at Boston University. Throughout my junior year, I worked at BUs Writing Center as a writing consultant, where we help students with papers from the writing courses, ESL English courses, and various other courses in the College of Arts and Sciences. I have found that engaging with the student and opening a line of communication helps me to determine what the focus of a session should be and how directly to approach learning specific topics. Some students require more direct visual step-by-step examples whereas others can benefit by completing a problem individually and then reviewing errors. Therefore, I try to keep in mind that figuring out a students learning process by asking questions about teaching styles and specific challenges is often just as important as the material being taught; not only does identifying these characteristics help me better tailor my tutoring approach, but it can also help the student better learn on their own.Outside of tutoring, I am an avid reader, movie lover, gamer, and concert-goer. When Im not re-reading my favorite Shakespeare play or watching the latest comic book movie, I can usually be found jumping up and down at a rock concert somewhere in the Boston area. I received my bachelor's of science degree in Health science from Boston University. In the future I plan to attend physician assistant school as well as getting a masters in public health nutrition. I have tutored many types of students over the years. I've worked with students from as young as preschool age to high school age. I've tutored fundamental reading skills in preschool children I tutored algebra, geometry, algebra 2 in high school students. Outside of the basic subjects I've tutored health subjects to inner-city high school students who lost their health program due to budget cuts. Throughout this, I really enjoy teaching math. Math was my favorite subject in school and it still makes me very excited to do math problems even now as an adult. With my students I tried to have them attempt a problem and observe their strategy. I've found that by observing how my students naturally work I can discover how to help them approach problems more effectively. Aside from tutoring I really enjoy reading and watching all types of movies. My favorite types of movies are action based, especially movies that are based off of Marvel and DC comic books. Additionally, I enjoy playing volleyball, tennis, and swimming.

I just completed my first year at Boston University. I am working towards a Bachelor of Arts in Pure and Applied Mathematics as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Astronomy and Physics. I have enjoyed studying math and science since I was in elementary school. I would always help my friends out by answering their questions about the material. For about the last five years, I have had my own tutoring business where I have tutored a wide variety of math courses from elementary school math to pre-calculus and calculus. I like to make sure my students have a complete understanding of the core concepts before going into practice questions. I have also had experience helping my peers with physics and computer science courses.
