I am an undergraduate student at the University of Michigan Ann Arbor, and am pursuing a dual degree in Movement Science and Biopsychology, Cognition and Neuroscience. I hope to go to medical school and become a physician in the future. I have had previous experience working with young kids at daycares, and I love helping others.

I am a 23-year retired insurance industry professional with experience in training and instructing licensed sales and service representatives. I am also a substitute K-6 teacher with National Heritage Academies based in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I first encountered the need and concept of tutoring while being a student at the University of Michigan. The use of a tutor helped me to get through my most difficult courses. To be able to help others in this regard is truly rewarding.
I love helping students learn and really understand the material. I make analogies and relate concepts to everyday life whenever possible. I have a sense of humor and always try to make learning fun. I love working one-on-one with students because I can see what concepts/topics are not understood and help build a strong foundation before moving on to harder topics.I have a B.S. and Ph.D. in chemistry and have been tutoring/teaching chemistry for 14 years. I was an instructor of general chemistry at Penn State University for several years before moving to Philadelphia. Over the years, I have garnered many general chemistry textbooks, exam question databanks and homework problems. In addition to tutoring college students all over the U.S. (online and in person), I have tutored high school students in chemistry (regular, honors, AP and IB). I have also worked with adult students who have returned to school.
As a graduate of University of Michigan with a degree in Kinesiology I hope to help offer my knowledge, patience and desire to help others learn through personalized tutoring meant to meet each child's academic goals by broadening their understanding of different topics and helping them develop the skills necessary to problem solve and/or articulate themselves to the best of their availability.
Since graduating from the University of Michigan my career has focused on working with students to help them achieve academic success. After completing my undergraduate degree, I spent two years working as a teacher for the Teach for America Americorps program. When my teaching commitment was complete I went on to graduate school and earned an MA from the College of Education at Michigan State University. I now work as an academic advisor for college students. My goal is to ensure every student I work with feels empowered to move towards new academic milestones.
Hello! My name is Jason and I am a lifelong learner interested in inspiring others to cultivate a similar drive. I look forward to meeting with you!
I've been intensely curious about everything related to mindfulness, self-awareness, and emotional intelligence ever since I was in high school. My love of learning about how to live a joyful and balanced life has translated into a love of teaching it!! I've been creating mindfulness programs for over 6 years now, and have had the pleasure to work with children, students, corporate offices, and even cancer patients. I love to share a smile, and I can go to bed happy knowing that I helped someone do the same.
I have enjoyed helping students in middle school and high school achieve their goals through individual and group tutoring sessions. I've also taught core business courses in Operations Management and Data Analysis for Managers in the California State University System (Sacramento State). I enjoy the most working with individual students to help them along their path to personal growth, whether learning the basics, or taking it to the next level. I've had success with advanced students and with challenged students. My education gave me opportunities in life that led me to interesting and vital work in my industry, and I would like my students to realize similar and greater success in their endeavors.
As a tutor, I am dedicated to enhancing student comprehension by focusing on thought processes as well as the answer itself, ensuring that students follow a logical step-by-step progression when solving problems and maximizing their understanding of the topics at hand. I have experience tutoring at the high school and collegiate level through student organizations, university employment, and personal offerings.
Hi there! My name is Bryan Kim-Butler, and I would love to work with you or your child on Varsity Tutors. I have over 7 years total of teaching experience, from the elementary school all the way through to the college level. I started way, way back, when I tutored elementary school kids when I was in high school, and that was around the year 2000. So that means I have been helping people younger than me educationally for over 25 years. My academic background is that I have a Master's in English literature, with a specialization in American literature, from the University of Michigan, a J.D. or a Juris Doctor, also known as a law degree, from Columbia University, and a bachelor's degree in Philosophy from Vassar College. So my areas of expertise are mainly in humanities: English, reading, writing, and social studies, including things like American history, law, and civics. My teaching is very student-centered and responsive to a student's own goals and their own needs. That's because I believe that even at a young age, children have their own ways of learning & their own priorities. It's just that adults often don't take the time to listen to them to figure out how best to help them. That's why I love getting to know the students I work with on a one-on-one level. My approach is not one-size-fits-all. I emphasize 3 things, okay? First, critical thinking, second, self-learning, meaning not depending on a teacher to tell you everything, and third, learning the practical steps anyone can take to improve from where they are. One thing I love about helping students and their families is seeing that spark of improvement, when someone who's been struggling realizes that what they need to do is not as hard as they thought, and that they really can do it. I've seen that spark in kids as young as 5 years old, and as old as college students ready to go off to law school, medical school, graduate school, and so on. So, I hope this video gives you a good idea of who I am as an educator, and I hope you're interested in working with me. Just let me know what you might be wondering about and how I might help. Thank you! Bye for now.
