I lived in France for almost ten years and fell in love with the people, their language, and their country. I lived and worked in such places as Aix-en-Provence, Bourges, Clermont-Ferrand, and Paris. My primary reasons for being in France, however, were to master the French language and complete my bachelors in 1986, my masters in 1994, and my doctorate in 2001. I have extensive knowledge of French culture and have achieved near-native fluency. My overriding goal when teaching French has always been to increase fluency, both written and spoken. Inasmuch as possible I conduct classes in French. This is a daunting prospect to many students, but my greatest assets as a teacher are patience and praise. I have taught all levels of French to students as young as 10 and as old as 70. I am also certified to prepare students to take the College Board's AP French Language and Culture exam. My AP students have consistently earned 4s and 5s on this rigorous test. My favorite thing about teaching French is to meet a student with no knowledge of French and watch her/him go on to study in France, become fluent in the language and then take a degree in it. I love to inspire.

In my life, I've had a handful of influential teachers and role models. They've guided me in my times of need and I am who I am today as a result. I hope to pay this forward by fulfilling that role in helping the next generation of learners become what they were meant to be! In my pre-university of days, I tutored through National Honors Society and worked as a martial arts instructor for 3-13 year-olds, so I'm great with kids! Currently, I am studying at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, pursuing a Bachelor's of Science degree in Biopscyhology, Cognition, and Neuroscience. There, I am an Evans Scholar, a Mu Epsilon Delta brother (a profession premedical fraternity, go premeds woohoo!) and on the Varsity Cheer Team. After college, I aspire to attend medical school and earn my place in this world as a doctor. In my time in academia, I've come to love the STEM subjects, as you can probably infer from my aspirations. Feel free to come to me with any of the topics that I offer, however especially I love tutoring in psychology, statistics, biology, and I'm pretty dandy with algebra. I am patient yet I expect a lot out of my students because I believe that my students should not only learn the material, but how to think. That being said, I try to make learning fun and show my students that it can be a hobby. Eventually, I hope to get my students to a place where they outgrow me. Consequently, this does not sadden me--it truly warms my heart to see my students grow and prosper. Outside of the classroom, I like to play my guitar, spend time outside usually playing sports, and I would be lying if I said I haven't been binging Netflix shows in this quarantine! I also love to talk about virtually anything and am starting my own podcast! All of this to say, I hope my services can be of help to you and feel free to reach out to me about anything!

I am looking to help students reach their learning goals and be successful in the schooling environment. Growing up, I have been a frequent volunteer in nonprofits that teach different subjects to students and also worked at Kumon as an assistant instructor for 5 years. In the past, I primarily worked with students to improve their understanding of various math concepts and also with reading comprehension. I currently attend the University of Michigan's Ross School of Business and am also pursuing minors in Computer Science and Mathematics. I love tutoring students in math because it is a topic I enjoy myself and hold high value to moving into the future. I try to prompt the student to think about the different ways to complete problems and ensure that they clearly understand the problem and concept through the use of various examples. Outside of the classroom, I am heavily invested in sports and being active. I frequently work out and play sports such as basketball and soccer, but other than that I watch a lot of shows, read books, and love learning new recipes to cook. Looking forward to helping you achieve your goals and become successful!

I hold a PhD in Applied Physics, with a background spanning advanced mathematics, engineering systems, and quantitative modeling. My training emphasized rigorous analytical thinking, structured problem-solving, and the ability to translate complex technical ideas into clear, understandable concepts. Throughout my academic and research career, I have worked extensively with mathematical modeling, differential equations, linear algebra, probability, electromagnetism, and systems-level engineering analysis. This experience allows me to help students see mathematics not as isolated formulas, but as a powerful language for understanding the physical world. My tutoring philosophy centers on developing strong foundations and deep intuition. I help students: Break down complex problems into manageable components Understand the underlying structure behind formulas and theorems Build disciplined, logical reasoning skills Connect abstract math concepts to real-world engineering and physics applications Whether a student is working through high school algebra, preparing for advanced calculus, or studying physics and engineering coursework, I focus on clarity, patience, and building lasting confidence. I aim to create an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, thinking critically, and strengthening their analytical abilities step by step. My goal is not only to improve grades or test scores, but to help students become independent, capable thinkers who can approach challenging problems with confidence and precision.

Hi, I'm Kshitij and I study at the University of Michigan's Ross School of Business. The best feeling in the world to me is helping other people reach their dreams by conquering barriers like testing that stand in their way. I believe that the process of learning precedes the end goals-- that means that I focus on teaching students how to learn and to autonomize problem solving skills and processes they can apply to all problems rather than just helping them get the answer they need on a specific problem. This is the approach that my teachers used with me, and I've found it to be successful in teaching others as well. In fact, a student I tutored is now a tutor herself at Varsity Tutors! I'm well versed in tutoring for standardized tests like the SAT/PSAT/ACT/AP, as well as things like essay writing and public speaking. I am a second year student pursuing a BSE in Chemical Engineering at the University of Michigan. I have tutored students of various ages, and my main concern as a tutor is to make sure that the student feels comfortable asking any sort of question and that they always leave the session feeling optimistic rather than defeated. I am a math and science nerd, and while I am very capable of helping in a variety of subjects including English and Spanish, I would much refer to help you solve a difficult math or chemistry problem. I also love helping students prep for the SAT or ACT, as I was once the kids who was obsessed with boosting my score and am happy to teach my techniques to others. I am a very sociable person and outside of academia I love to entertain myself by hanging with my friends, watching sports and binge-ing tv series, blasting rap music, or even talking about conspiracy theories. I know what it is like to feel stuck and like you are incapable of succeeding, but I am a firm believer that if you try hard enough, you can always achieve those seemingly impossible goals, and I am here to help you do just that.

Hi Everyone!A little bit about me: I am from a suburb of Columbus, OH where I graduated highschool with over a 4.0, played soccer and lacrosse, and was heavily involved in peer collaboration, both in school and out of school, for students with disabilities. I went on to attend the University of Michigan where I graduated Honors in Cellular and Molecular Biology and Applied Statistics. During which time, I lead informal tutor and study groups for my peers in difficult courses such as microbiology, organic chemistry, and biostatistics, to name a few. Since graduating, I have moved back to my hometown where I worked as Data Analyst for roughly 8 months before changing paths and shifting back to medicine where I work now as a Medical Assistant for a local dermatology practice. I plan to get my Master's in Physician Assistant Studies in the new few years. As I mentioned above, I have a passion for helping those excel, where they may not feel the most confident. While my areas of strength are in math and science, I, myself, have struggled in other areas and have had to ask for help. So, I understand first-hand that everyone's learning techniques are different and, if a student is not understanding a concept while being taught one way, there needs to be a shift in methods to try and convey the message differently. I have informally taught many students over the years, and each one of them learned differently. What helped things "click" in one student's mind, was not quite the same as another's. I'd like to continue helping students find what "clicks" for them and excel in their troublesome area!

My ties to "Chi-town" are abundant, so I return often to teach, freelance, and socialize. My philosophy to teaching has been cultivated through the student-centered approach to learning. The first goal is to create a positive learning environment that will engage our classroom. Thereafter, insight is enhanced by instituting comprehensive instruction, and in-depth dialogue. Last, I believe that encouraging scholarly growth equates to supporting the maturation of critical thinking. Such approach should assist in developing individual scholarly voices, ultimately refined through class discussions, assignments, and personal experience.Professionally, I am a Counselor dedicated to hospice care, bereavement counseling, and leading psycho-educational groups. One of my assignments is to conduct group counseling and instruct a financial accountability curriculum to first-time bad check offenders.
