I have a bachelor's degree in General Anthropology from Grinnell College, A master's degree in Cultural Anthropology from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and finally, a doctoral degree in Anthropological Archaeology from the University of Michigan based on archaeological research I conducted in India at the great late medieval/early modern South Indian imperial capital of Vijayanagara in its 16th-century heyday one of the largest cities in the world.Despite the anthropological emphasis of my academic training, however, I have spent much of the past 11 years teaching as an instructor in the History Department at the University of Arkansas, where my teaching activities have focused on global surveys of ancient civilizations and courses on the history and culture of early India. In recent years, I have also extended my reach to the modern era with courses on Modern Imperialism, Colonial India, and most recently, a course on the History of Beer and Brewing.Perhaps the most enjoyable aspects of teaching for me lie in the opportunity to share with students my fascination with investigating the immensely diverse civilizations that humans have created over the millennia and in imparting to students a sense of how we know what we think we know about these early civilizations in a manner that combines the methods and data of both history and archaeology. In my spare time I enjoy reading (both fiction and non-fiction), listening to varied musical genres, playing the trombone, hiking, cycling, cooking South Asian dishes, and home-brewing - the last a hobby that I have pursued for over 30 years as the result of the opportunity to study abroad in England as an undergraduate.
I am a recent University of Michigan graduate with a Bachelor's in Industrial and Operations Engineering. I enjoy teaching people of all ages, and am particularly strong within SAT/ACT test prep, algebra/geometry/pre-calc, calculus 1, and reading/writing.
I am a current junior at the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor), where I study economics and political science. I graduated from Livonia Stevenson High School in 2016 and from Schoolcraft College in 2018, where I earned a Liberal Arts Associate's Degree.I have a passion for academics, coming from a family where my mother teaches high school mathematics and my brother teaches high school mathematics. I can't wait to work with you!As your tutor we are teammates. Your goals will be my goals and we will work together to ensure they are accomplished!
I can be as flexible or as regimented as you like! For SAT preparation, we can go through practice questions from a resource of your choosing. I'm a firm believer in repetition and practice, so the more practice questions we do together, the better! For essay writing practice and English language tutoring, we can focus on whatever you need help with. We can go over the fundamentals of what makes a good expository essay and practice building out an essay from a simple, effective skeleton. I'm happy to teach grammar and reading comprehension at all levels!I have experience teaching SAT prep in the past and have a good grasp of the English language due to my time living in the US and my profession as a lawyer. I'm looking forward to working with you!
I graduated from Ohio State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Biomedical Engineering. During high school and college, I have had extensive tutoring and teaching experience; during high school, I served as a volunteer tutor through my school's National Honors Society and tutored high school students on Math subjects (Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus, and AP Calculus AB/BC); in college, I was a teaching assistant in a freshman engineering course where I helped students 1:1 and in small groups with MatLab programming, engineering design fundamentals, and other engineering concepts. My favorite subject to tutor is high school math (Algebra 1 to AP Calculus) because I enjoy the challenge of solving problems and applying mathematical concepts to real-world scenarios, making learning both practical and enjoyable. My teaching philosophy centers on understanding each student's unique concerns and ensuring they have a strong grasp of the fundamentals. I focus on guiding students through problems and supporting their learning accordingly.

I have a lot of experience in tutoring individuals from the elementary school age all the way up to adults, in subjects ranging from elementary math to pre-calculus. I have previously worked as a tutor with other organizations in both a group and one-on-one tutoring atmosphere. I am patient and can easily identify what pace each student would like to work at. I cater my tutoring to the student's pace so that they get the most out of each session.I love tutoring because I know how important it is. I took tutoring sessions myself when I was in high school to prep for AP and ACT exams. Those sessions really helped me, and that is what inspired me to become a tutor and help others. I also have a huge passion for math. I have loved and excelled at it since elementary school. I'm doing a minor in mathematics at college because I enjoy the subject so much.I try to make sure my students walk away with something from each session. I hold myself to high standards which constantly allows me to grow as a tutor.I am excited to hear from you and help you achieve whatever goals you may have! If you feel I'm the right tutor for you, don't hesitate to request me as your tutor!
