Because I have been through the same learning difficulties, I know how to explain the topics in a way that is easily understood.As for my tutoring style, I like to get to know the student's goals, difficulties, and schedule, and tutor the student accordingly. In the tutoring sessions, if you don't have any specific questions or homework to do, I'll do a brief review of the topic, and then ask you to work a few example problems. This helps keep you both active and alert, and ensures that you're understanding the material.My past clients have included middle school students to college students. I've tutored a variety of subjects including the PSAT, SAT, Calculus, Biology, Chemistry, English, and Geometry. I'm a bioengineering student at Rice University. For the duration of my academic career there's always been one thing that's bugged me above all else. Watching a student fail to understand something and a teacher being unable to convey it to that student. I would often find myself offering to help, after either the student or teacher had given up on the question. I found that frequently the problem wasn't in the difficulty in the material, but in the method of instruction. Some people just have a different way of looking at things and might need a more unconventional explanation. I apply this line of reasoning throughout my life, both in my engineering work and while working with friends trying to help each other understand difficult concepts. Sometimes all it takes is a different approach.

Hello! I am a third-year law student at Georgetown Law looking to provide academic and test-prep advice. I have applied to undergraduate schools and law school and have lots of experience going through the application process. I know it can be a stressful time, and I'd love to help however I can. I have a Ph.D. from Columbia University in Mathematics Education and currently teach mathematics at Mercy College. I have tutored math since high school. I am a graduate Mechanical Engineering student at Rice University in Houston, TX. You don't have to have an interest in science to appreciate its achievements or to contribute to its progress, you simply need to be human - that is, to be curious.I know that modern science can seem a wholly complicated and vast subject matter that seems insurmountable. While that reputation is not unwarranted, I can also assure students that most concepts don't require a doctorate degree to understand - it's a matter of understanding the underlying principles and reasons. Science is only as simple and as complicated as we want it to be in any given situation.
