Hi! I am a graduate of the University of Central Florida. I have a bachelor's degree in elementary education and communication with a minor in creative writing. For the past decade, I have been teaching and tutoring children ages 4-16, and I love knowing that I am helping them become more confident, competent learners. I strongly believe in positive reinforcement and utilizing enthusiasm and excitement to foster learning, and I think that creating a comfortable and encouraging environment for children who are struggling is key to their success. I am all about high fives and positive energy, and I love watching improvement and confidence gained through small victories that gradually blossom into big achievements.

Growing up, I struggled in math. I remember being so nervous when I walked into a math class because I knew I would leave feeling unsure. I never want anyone else to feel that way. After graduation from the University of Central Florida, where I majored in Political Science and International Relations, I began serving with Americorps in the classroom.During my two years of service I taught, you guessed it: MATH. I taught 9th grade Algebra 1. What I realized during this time is that I actually love math. I also learned that sometimes when something comes to us easily, we don't know how to share that knowledge to someone else in a way that is beneficial to them. Because Math did not come to me naturally growing up, I have taught myself and my students in a very specific way. My method of help is simple: I am going to teach you math in the way that makes the most sense to you! I make sure not to overwhelm my students and help understand the "why" behind an answer. I will break down problems to the basics so it is digestable and so you can process the information best. All of the students I have tutored 1:1 have gone on to pass the Algebra 1 EOC Exam, which I attribute to the learning process that takes place in our sessions.

I am an independent learning consultant with undergraduate and graduate online and in-person teaching, course curriculum development, research, and presentations. I provide academic direction, instruction, editing, and proofreading support for subjects including writing and editing dissertations, doctoral projects, capstones, and master's theses; technical writing; digital marketing; and basic computer skills. Additionally, I have more than 25 years in government and corporate training arenas and online learning. My teaching philosophy is grounded in and built around my experiences as a student. I learned from both the good and bad teachers I had. I make a concerted effort to remember and implement the good techniques and qualities and avoid the bad techniques and qualities that hinder or block understanding, competency, and success. I recognize everyone learns and demonstrates what they have learned differently, and I consciously implement different teaching modalities to accommodate learning styles and evaluation. I look for learning problems students may be having, and work with them to overcome the problems so that they succeed. I recognize that age, culture, and life conditions (work, family, economics, environment) also influence how students learn. I consciously look for those influences and will work with students so that these influences do not become a barrier to students' learning experiences and successes. I also recognize that technology is a part of the learning experience and include it to facilitate access to course content, classmates (to support peer learning), and myself. I believe that teaching is not a 9 am-5 pm job, and I meet with students before or after classes, or online to provide the direction or support they need. My focus and goal are student success, and I believe this success will influence the rest of their days.

I'm currently an undergraduate chemistry student at UCF. My favorite laboratory procedure is the basic acid-base titration; as there are usually some nice, drastic color changes involved with them.I mainly tutor math (pre-algebra, algebra, trigonometry, pre-calculus, calculus) and try to help students understand the concepts from the ground up, trying to make sure I go over any areas they struggle in. I have no problem going over a concept or topic multiple times to ensure that someone truly understands what is going on in the problem.Aside from school and work I attempt to keep myself busy by browsing the internet, playing video games, ping-pong, and the occasional basketball game. However, school and work tend to keep me plenty busy as is and like to spill over into my free time.

I am very passionate about helping students reach their academic goals through tutoring. I believe that we can all be successful with the right tools.I have been working with students for as long as I can remember, I started as a teacher's assistant. I then became a volunteer, as a volunteer I would tutor students and conduct small group instructions for different classrooms. I have also been a substitute teacher (pre-K through 12th), a youth leader and coach, a private tutor (K-12th), and a public school tutor (middle school).I am currently a senior at the University of Central Florida. Here I am working on my bachelor's in World Language Education - Spanish with minors in Exceptional Students Education, Spanish, and English as a Second Language.I tutor a wide variety of subjects, usually core subjects (math, English, social studies, and science) focusing on grades k-6th. I also tutor Spanish at any grade/level.As I mentioned before I believe that anyone can be successful with the right tools. One of these tools is a tutor. Tutors can help guide you in the right direction and give you the tools needed to be successful in different classes.

Everyone learns differently. My goal is to find out how my students learn best so that I can help them success. Knowing the material, even if very well, is not enough to be a good tutor. I will make my best effort to coach my students so that they can figure out the way in which they learn best and I will adapt my teaching style to each student's needs. I will help them set tangible goals that they can work towards so that they can achieve success and I will be there to help them along the way.About me:I am currently a junior at the University of Central Florida where I am pursuing a degree in economics. I went to high school in Miami, Fl, and before that I lived and studied abroad. In the past I have been a middle school math tutor with Mu Alpha Theta and have been offered tutor positions by the Student Academic Resource Center at UCF. I tutor Economics (both macro and micro), U.S Government and Politics, U.S. History, and Spanish (native speaker. I can help students prepare for the advanced placement tests in all of these subjects. I also help students prepare for college readiness assisting with applications, essays, and SAT critical reading and writing. In my spare time I am a member of the UCF Western Equestrian Team, where I compete in horsemanship competitions, and I am an avid guitar player. I am also very passionate about traveling. My favorite part of tutoring is seeing my students setting up goals and being able to accomplish them. If I had to pick my favorite subjects to tutor they would be U.S.History and U.S. government. So much in fact, that I read books about these subjects just for pleasure. Nonetheless, I am very proficient in all the other subjects that I tutor as well.

In my time acting as an academic tutor, I have found that I most enjoy assisting students struggling with English and math. With all subjects, but especially in regards to these, I often find that students know more than they believe they do. My aim in teaching is to help students take ownership and pride in what they do well, and begin to use this confidence to establish responsibility for their own learning that will advance their knowledge beyond a classroom setting. I believe that the more control students find they have over their own learning, the more successful they will be. In my spare time I enjoy all sorts of films and TV shows, and doing research for social justice advocacy.

I've also helped high school students with college admission essays, and with kindergartners in the Junior Achievement program.I enjoy working with children and finding creative ways for them to learn the material and to try to inspire a desire to learn by making learning fun for them. I also really enjoy teaching general chemistry, because I find the material fascinating. When I tutor a student, I don't just give them the answers, but rather I guide them to the answers. It is important that a student learns how to find the answers themselves so they do not become dependent on outside sources.

I am a graduate of International Academy of Design & Technology with a degree in Interior Design. I also graduated from University of Central Florida with a degree in Communication Sciences & Disorders. I guess I'm a little eclectic with my pursuits, but I love being unique. I started my educational career as a speech & language pathologist in an elementary school. After 2 years of that, I decided to become certified to teach. My teaching certificate includes elementary education, exceptional student education, and English for speakers of other languages. The special education classroom is where I found out how much I loved working with student of varying exceptionalities. Each day was so rewarding and exciting, but paperwork and demands from district really put a damper on that joy of helping students. Tutoring came easily for me when the opportunity arose and I'm glad I never looked back from leaving the schools. Helping each student find their "light bulb" moment is what I continually strive for. I am primarily able to work with elementary students across all subjects and varying levels of ability. In middle school and high school, I am most confident with reading and writing, but can work with math if I have a chance to refresh my memory on the topic. I am trained to work with students who are learning English as a second language of any age. I have experience with helping prepare for different tests academically and professionally as the need arises.

When I work with a student, I try to understand how they see things first; it helps me to see from their perspective, and it helps me to understand how to help them see from another perspective. Most students have the potential to do better than they are, they just haven't been told in terms that make sense to them. That's what I'm here to do.

I believe all students are able to effectively learn new information and apply it to real life. All students learn differently and at different paces. Some students learn by doing, some by hearing and some by seeing. An effective tutor is able to use different teaching methods to reach each individual student. Also, the tutor must understand the strengths and weaknesses of each student to assess areas of improvement. When you pair the student with an effective tutor, then the student will gain more knowledge. This results in better grades and test scores, and a greater opportunity for success in the future.

Since graduating college I have been working as a substitute teacher, K-12 educational consultant and tutor, and middle school ELA/Speech and Debate teacher. I have found that I enjoy the teaching environment and have had measurable success through the tutoring system and Osceola School District. Throughout my time in the public schools system, both elementary and post secondary, I have always enjoyed the academic experience. I look forward to the opportunity to transfer some of my own enthusiasm to the younger generations, particularly in middle school.I have always been an avid reader and enjoyed the language arts and literature. I believe that reading and a fundamental understanding of the written languages is the most essential tool any student can have. Without a full and in depth comprehension of languages, all other subjects will necessarily suffer. By broadening the ability of a student to use and understand languages creatively, that student is better able to understand the motivations behind history, the connections in math and number theory, the practical applications of science and technology, and any other subject for which the student has an interest.Motivating a student to develop an interest in language arts should involve teaching the student the importance of language arts applications in his or her own interests. While classical applications are as important, they must be made relevant to the student. I hope that I will have the chance to inspire students to cultivate an interest in language that will further their studies in other subjects through a teaching and tutoring position. My own love of learning was strongly inspired by teachers in my own life, even in the subjects for which I was not as adept. It is my hope to be similarly inspiring to students through teaching reading and languages arts.
