How can a tutor assist you in conquering Physical Chemistry?

Physical chemistry studies reactions on a molecular and atomic scale. The field focuses specifically on how chemical reactions occur. In comparison to general chemistry, it is much more focused on the why and how behind reactions. In order to master this field, students need to have an in-depth understanding of atomic structures, heat capacities, and all other characteristics an element can possess. Understanding how these concepts are applied to individual materials or reactions can be a lot of information to process, so students have to comprehend the information well. Learning all of this on your own can be challenging, but with the assistance of a tutor, you can create a study plan that focuses on improving your physical chemistry knowledge. The educational directors at Varsity Tutors can help you discover a physical chemistry tutor in St. Louis, Missouri, who can help you study your course material.

Learning the fundamental physical characteristics of an entire list of materials requires a lot of memorization, but learning how to identify these characteristics involves fully understanding how a material is constructed on a molecular level. In order to do this, you'll need to have a complete understanding of the various theories and laws that are used in physical chemistry, such as Dalton's law and equations of state. If you struggle to wrap your mind around these complex laws, then a St. Louis physical chemistry tutor can provide support.

Session Summaries by Physical Chemistry Tutors

Physical Chemistry Tutoring review by Farrah in St. Louis, MO
We started by going over her quiz which started at the beginning of the book. I also asked her questions that were not in her book but we discussed and I thought important. She did very well!! We reviewed mitosis and meiosis. We continued on to genetics and heredity. We did Punnett squares. We continued with genetics...gene expression, replication, transcription and translation (more in-depth this time), gene regulation in bacteria and humans, DNA technology and genomics. I brought in some of my old lecture notes to show better pictures because her book was difficult to visualize. I also had access to a computer which allowed for some quizzing and interaction which she was given DNA and had to transcribe and translate it. Again I created another quiz and emailed it to her later that night.

The student and I continued to work on his packet. Today we finished the last section on ecological succession. We began working on the portion that provides a comprehensive review of the semester. In preparation for his upcoming exams we did some practice test problems found online. He performed well and did a good job recalling concepts from very early in the semester which is very encouraging. Today I also utilized new worksheets found online to test his knowledge of succession using new material. While he needed some assistance on recalling key words he was able to recall facts and demonstrated a good understanding.

Physical Chemistry Tutoring review by Emily in St. Louis, MO
Today was my first session with the student. We started off the session with basic introductions. I am helping the student with Geometry and Biology. We plan on splitting the session into two 45 minute blocks and reviewing homework and doing test preparation for both subjects. For Biology, we worked through work sheets covering DNA, RNA, and proteins. It was mainly a review of the vocabulary, which the student stated was an aspect of Biology she struggles with most. In addition, we reviewed Geometry. She has recently began work on proofs, and has already identified proofs as an area of concern. Today, we worked through her homework assignment which was primarily Algebra and an online practice tool. I had an enjoyable time working with the student. She seems like a very intelligent, well-rounded young lady and I look forward to helping her this semester.

Physical Chemistry Tutoring review by Garret in St. Louis, MO
Today I covered a basic assessment of the student's abilities in chemistry, biology, and her study skills and learning styles. She is primarily a Kinesthetic learner and acquires information most easily when real-life examples are paired with diagrams and flow-charts. Overall her study habits are healthy, though we spoke about spacing her study sessions into spurts instead of long successive hours. Following this we covered a basic review of aerobic and anaerobic respiration. Her next sessions will be continued basic review of essential biology principles and will include any new information obtained in her classes.
