St. Louis French Tutoring FAQ

Varsity Tutors can connect you or a student in your family with a highly qualified St. Louis French tutor. Studying with St. Louis French tutors can enhance the language learning experience for students of all skill levels. If students are interested in strengthening their studies in school or would like to improve their career options by increasing their language fluency, spending valuable time with a personal instructor can help them pursue success.

How can a St. Louis French tutor near me enhance my language learning experience?

Learning a new language can be challenging, which is why it is good to study under a professional with expertise in the field. You could be interested in visiting French-speaking countries as a casual traveler or would like to improve your chances of working in international business by enhancing French fluency. You could have a student in your family who is just starting to learn French in school and needs support or has been learning the language and is interested in becoming a stronger speaker before studying abroad. No matter the goals of you or your student, St. Louis French tutoring can help build desired language skills and confidence as a learner.

Among the many ways a student can benefit from working with a personal instructor is the ability to interact in a one-on-one setting. You can enjoy a personalized experience during which the academic mentor can learn about your individual learning style and develop a study plan designed to meet specific academic goals and needs. As the private instructor recognizes areas of strength or opportunity for growth, adjustments can be made to the study plan to reflect progress while tackling areas that need the most attention. If questions or concerns arise during study sessions, the private instructor can quickly address them in real time.

The process of building you or your student's French skills can involve learning the difference between masculine and feminine nouns, understanding how to utilize and pronounce words with accent marks, and determining when an adjective could be occasionally placed before a noun. St. Louis French tutors understand the nuances of the language and are able to help you or your student better comprehend those nuances. Whether your priority is to enhance your speaking, writing, or listening skills, your academic mentor can offer the assistance you need.

During St. Louis French tutoring sessions, a personal instructor can use a variety of strategies to help you or your student become stronger in French. For instance, if you are a physical learner, your academic mentor could use tangible objects to help you identify French words or concepts. Or if your student is a visual learner, a personal instructor could utilize flashcards, memorization, and repetition to build your student's knowledge. While customizing the learning experience, your tutor can try several approaches to find one that works best. Your private instructor can also set small goals so you feel motivated to keep progressing without becoming overwhelmed by a larger academic agenda.

A great way to become a stronger French student is through simulated immersion. An academic mentor can use this technique to help improve pronunciation and enhance a student's ability to communicate confidently with other French speakers.

You don't have to worry about your personal instructor moving too fast for you or your student. St. Louis French tutoring is designed to move at the pace that aligns with each student's unique needs to encourage maximum efficiency, effectiveness, and engagement. When students are able to make progress while working at a speed that is natural to them, learning is more enjoyable.

How can I fit St. Louis French tutoring into my schedule?

Flexibility is one of the most significant benefits of this instructional style. We understand the time commitment required when studying a new language and take into consideration the scheduling challenges that can arise when attempting to work with a personal instructor. To respect the scheduling requirements of you and your family, we work hard to locate a St. Louis French tutor who is available during your chosen timeframes.

Depending on your scheduling and learning environment preferences, you can choose online or in-person tutoring. If you select online instruction, you or your student will interact with the academic mentor in the Live Learning Platform. This platform lets you communicate directly with the instructor face-to-face via video chat, work collaboratively using a virtual whiteboard, and even use a shared document editor designed to help learners understand the proper use of accents, grammar, and more. You can also watch previous recordings of your time with your instructor if you would like to refresh your knowledge when not participating in sessions.

If you choose to meet with your French instructor in-person, we can connect you with a professional right in your area. You could work with your academic mentor in any location you select, including your home, a quiet deli, or even the University City Public Library.

Keep in mind that you can also join other French learners by enrolling in French language courses offered by Varsity Tutors. In these live virtual classes, you have the opportunity to learn from an expert instructor and communicate with peers on the same language-learning journey in an interactive and collaborative environment. Recent St. Louis French Tutoring Session Notes

French Tutoring review by Alice in St. Louis, MO
We covered more descriptions and the student learned different agreement rules for different adjectives. The goal was that by the end of our session she was able to introduce/describe different people she knows. Then she could write the sentences she had just said. For next time I asked her to memorize common verbs in the present tense (aller - avoir - etre) because unfortunately there is no going around that.

I reviewed the homework from last week, which both students did well. We reviewed last week's topics, and both students seemed to retain the information well. Having reviewed gender in the last session, we started learning adjectives today (mostly personal). At the end, we learned "I am..." phrases using the adjectives they'd learned.

French Tutoring review by Matthew in St. Louis, MO
The student and I reviewed prepositions (a? and de) and their contractions (au, aux, a? la and du, des, de la?). We also reviewed conjugations for etre, and -er verbs. We used these two (prepositions and verbs) in conjunction to make sentences using his current vocabulary list. As part of this, we reviewed the adverbs "tres" and "assez" and how to use them correctly in a sentence, as well as negations (ne...pas and ne...ni...ni). He is progressing very well. His spelling and pronunciation are both improving. He also learns vocabulary very quickly and his listening comprehension is growing rapidly.

The student has a test on Monday in French class so we spent our session going over her vocabulary she has to know. I explained the difference between masculine and feminine as well as how to conjugate er verbs. She is very attentive and understood the general concept. We made it through a review of her vocabulary. I taught her the best way to study with flashcards. Overall, she did very well tonight.

French Tutoring review by Lara in St. Louis, MO
Had the student recite months, seasons, numbers, then we reviewed them by 'guessing the date' with descriptions of weather, season, etc. He conjugated the five main verbs with only one error! We then looked at his book pg 90/91, descriptions of objects and asked /answered questions about the objects in the exercise, then the classroom objects from his list in class. FULL SENTENCES!! Did quick translations from English statements to French question- will start on this for next time. Mixes verbs in context despite knowing them as lists.

French Tutoring review by Sammy in St. Louis, MO
I covered a big list of kitchen vocabulary, the first and second groups of the verbs rule in French, and popular phrases in French that were related to what they wrote during the session. I asked the students to write three sentences to see how good they were with the basics. We agreed they would complete homework once a week. I have no concerns so far, as the students seem to be very interested in learning French. Also, from now on, I will make sure to cover the four components of learning a foreign language: oral expression, written expression, oral comprehension, and reading comprehension.
