If you are planning to take the MCAT, it is best to prepare early by enrolling in a Washington MCAT course provided by Varsity Tutors. The Medical College Admission Test, or MCAT, is a very challenging standardized test that runs for 7 and a half hours. You will need time and dedication in preparing for it, which might be a problem if you have an already busy work schedule.
A Washington MCAT class provided by Varsity Tutors offers you different review schedule options, experienced and educated instructors, and a positive and encouraging study environment while you are preparing for the test. Through the course, you can gain insights on the content and format of the exam, and your teachers can also share tips on how to answer each test section efficiently.
Most medical schools in the United States and Canada ask for the MCAT and use it together with other documents like GPAs, letters of recommendation, and interviews as a way to measure and compare applicants' qualifications and preparedness in entering med school. Aspiring medical students who want to enter well-known med schools such as George Washington University School of Medicine & Health Sciences, Georgetown University School of Medicine, and Howard University College of Medicine work hard in preparing for the exam since scoring high on it can mean the difference between getting accepted in the school you want or looking somewhere else.
What could a Washington MCAT course help me review?
The MCAT has four sections that test a person's content knowledge in General Biology, General Chemistry, Biochemistry, Psychology, Organic Chemistry, Physics, and Sociology. These sections also test the person's critical analysis and reasoning skills.
Here are the four sections of the MCAT and some of the important things you need to know about each section:
1. Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems
This section requires you to use your knowledge in basic physical sciences and biological sciences. Your ability to apply your understanding of basic chemical and physical principles working in the human body to living systems will be key in doing well in this section.
Out of the 59 questions in this section, there are 15 independent questions and 10 passage-based sets that may contain 4 to 6 questions per set. You will be given 95 minutes to complete this part of the exam.
2. Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills
Unlike the rest of the sections in the MCAT, the Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills section will not test you on any prior content knowledge. All the information you need to answer the questions can be found in the passages presented to you. Passage topics cover a variety of disciplines in humanities and social sciences. Questions will basically test you on how well you can analyze an argument and make inferences based what you have read on the passage.
In total, this section has 53 questions made up of 9 passage sets with 5 to 7 questions each set. You will have 90 minutes to answer this section.
3. Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems
This section will require you to combine your knowledge in biology and biochemistry, and it also has questions that cover organic chemistry and general chemistry. In order to do well in this section, you need to have a good understanding of the processes of life such as growing, reproducing, and acquiring and using energy. You will also need to use your knowledge of how cells and organs in an organism act independently and as a system in order to accomplish these different life processes.
There are 59 questions in this section-10 passage-based sets of questions with 4 to 6 questions each set and 15 independent questions. You will have 95 minutes to finish this part.
4. Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior
Questions in this section require you to integrate your knowledge in psychology and sociology in the context of biological sciences including behavior and relationships. The concepts tested in this section are what doctors of tomorrow need to know in order to have a better understanding of how behavior impacts health.
Again, there are 59 questions in this section-10 passage-based sets of questions with 4 to 5 questions per set and 15 independent questions. You will be given 95 minutes to complete this section.
How does a Washington MCAT class help me prepare?
Enrolling in your Washington MCAT class can help you become more familiar with each section of the test, which is very important in lowering test jitters on exam day and having more confidence when answering questions. In your class, you can learn academic skills and test-taking techniques that may not come as easy if you were doing your review alone. Since you will also be studying with an educated and qualified private instructor, you can have personalized attention and 1-on-1 time set aside to work on problems or concepts that are troubling you.
Varsity Tutors has considered the busy schedules of reviewers and offers MCAT classes that can be taken online. The online MCAT class is conducted in a virtual classroom-you have live, interactive lessons with the instructor and other students that you can conveniently participate in from the comfort of your home. You don't need to stress about commuting, which is a big help if you are preparing for such a challenging test. The time you save in commuting can be added to the time you study for the MCAT.

...and in learning from mistakes and weaknesses with an optimistic eye. I enjoy tutoring math the most, not only because I find the subject matter itself fun and exciting, but also because I love seeing that moment on a students face when a problem clicks or when he or she figures out an answer his- or herself. Outside of class, I enjoy reading, movies, volleyball, watching college basketball, and socializing in general.... There are no stupid questions. A student should never feel ashamed or guilty. Teaching/tutoring should be student-centered and as individualized as possible.
