Tutoring review by James in Wilsonville, OR
The student and I reviewed for her upcoming algebra final. We spent much of our time on quadratic functions and their characteristics, including factoring, vertex form, standard form, and the quadratic formula. We also covered how to derive a function's inverse and finally, we reviewed transformations of functions. Quadratic functions seemed to be most challenging for her. We will work on that in future sessions.

We went through some book section reviews to figure out a good starting point. We practiced several derivative and limit problems. I asked the student to take a practice final exam for further diagnosis.

Tutoring review by Jared in Wilsonville, OR
We did a review of all the sections of the ACT because the student isn't too familiar with the format and questions. She did really well with the English section. Her reasoning skills are very good as well, as evidenced in the Math and Science sections. The biggest thing she struggled with was just making simple mistakes in knowing what the question is asking. We worked on a couple of strategies to overcome this. In between sessions, I gave her a practice test to complete with the timing restrictions in order to see how she will do in an actual test setting. She seems confident and will be ready to take the ACT in a couple of weeks.

Tutoring review by Nicholas in Wilsonville, OR
The student and I worked ahead of her class today. We covered almost an entire chapter of material! I lectured for about half of the time, and the other half of the time she solved problems on what I had just lectured on. We covered statics, 2D dynamics, the normal force, frictional forces, coefficients of kinetic friction, and mass incline problems. She understood the material quickly enough that we were able to cover all of this material!

Tutoring review by Nathan in Wilsonville, OR
The student and I reviewed a variety of factoring methods such as completing the square, the zero product property, the swing method, and the quadratic equation. He could improve more if he slowed down and double-checked his work. We need to continue to emphasize that. I left him with a set of practice problems and an answer key.

Tutoring review by David in Wilsonville, OR
The student and I met to prepare for an upcoming quiz on related rate problems. I reviewed his work ahead of the meeting. He is fine with the basic problem type, but had question with ones requiring an extra step. We worked on several of these examples, and he appeared to understand it during our discussion.
