Tutoring review by Michael in Newberg, OR
The student and I reviewed some of the material that he was told by the teacher would be on tomorrow's exam. We spent a lot of time on a particular problem that incorporated both a confidence interval and a t-test. At first he was not completely confident about how to interpret the results of this problem, but after quite a bit of discussion and visual illustration, he seemed to have a good grasp of how to interpret it. He told me that he feels pretty confident about the exam. I discussed a strategy for approaching multiple choice questions, and was told that he learned something similar from a prep course for the SAT. He will let me know the result of his exam when he gets it (and expects that to be later this week).

Tutoring review by Debbie in Newberg, OR
The student and I focused our time on English today. He turned in 4 different writing assignments and completed his mid unit review. Also, we looked ahead and planned the rest of the unit assignments. He worked beautifully on all assignments. He received back his grades on his Science projects last week and earned 96 and higher on all 3 assignments and his lab. We began his essay on great leaders of the Roman Empire. As usual, he was a delight to work with.

I met with the student and listened to her read 2 books. We made predictions about her reading, and I asked some comprehension questions to get a feel for where she is with reading. She struggles on some sight words, and on more complex compound words and multisyllabic words. All very typical of a first grader.

Tutoring review by Jennifer in Newberg, OR
We reviewed the concepts we started last session, dealing with trig functions by using right triangles and finding coterminal angles. We went over how to solve right triangles by using trig functions, the Pythagorean Theorem, and the Law of Sines. We also went over how to solve for angles by using the inverse trig function (or arc functions). The student feels very comfortable with these topics and she puts in a lot of effort to each question. She is off to a great start in solving trig functions and eventually using the unit circle to find angle or trig values.
