The student has her final exam this Wednesday, so today we continued working through the review guide. Most of the work we did was on square roots and graphing. She had some difficulty recalling old concepts, like point-slope form and how to find the equation of a line given only two points. However, we practiced with it and she did very well. I think she's in good shape all around, and I told her if any additional questions come up, I can help her again before the exam.

Tutoring review by Lucas in Tarrytown, NY
We went over an online assignment that included a few problems on integration by parts. The student was struggling with keeping track of the symbols once the problems got more complex. She was eager to learn the material but she just needed a bit of a push to get it. A few of the problems required estimation of the resulting integrals via Riemann sums and that was definitely a bit of review but I think she got the idea of it pretty quickly. I also pointed out to her that having good organization really goes a long way with this material and she definitely did a great job of following the advice. That simple tip really went a long way for her and given that, I think that she definitely will do well in this class in the long run.

Tutoring review by Cheryl in Tarrytown, NY
We spent one hour each on the math and verbal reasoning. We specifically covered the following sections with terminology and problems: PEMDAS; basics terms (number properties); adding/ subtracting variables; multiplying/ dividing variables; distributive property with variables and word problems/ variables in answer choices. The verb-scrambled paragraph section was much better for her. We went over key clues that will assist her with placing the sentences into random order. For example, I explained to her to look for transitions, sequence ordering, timing, historical and comparison and contrast. She had some challenges in the beginning with most of the math foundations. I believed she didn't remember how to apply the math concepts to the problems. But we worked on the concepts and strategies on how to apply the terminology to each problem. Once we completed that she remembered the terms and concepts. She was able to understand how to solve the problems. Her attitude was engaging and she was determined to apply the concepts toward the math section. She was talkative, mindful and had some hesitation whether she was selecting the right answer. We discussed her not second-guessing herself. The strategies for the verbal section were to continue to underline key words, transitions, sequence and anything that will provide clues to the next sentence. I informed her to take her time and read very carefully the sentences. I provided her with 4 math problems and 1 scrambled paragraph to continue practicing.
