Tutoring review by Dane in Pittsburg, CA
I first tutored Student 1 for 30 minutes. I helped him with his homework on inequalities, which he seemed to understand very well. I then went on to absolute value inequalities - these had not yet been covered in class. He initially struggled will this concept, but by the end of the session he understood how to solve these types of problems. We also continued to work on solving word problems. I then tutored Student 2 for 1 hour. We went over the results of his most recent geometry exam and he understood where he made mistakes. His score had improved substantially from the first exam. We then went over his homework on congruent triangles and he was doing very well with this. I noticed that drawing and interpreting information from a graph was a challenge for him, so then we worked on improving these skills. The boys did very well in the session.

Tutoring review by Chloe in Pittsburg, CA
The student read all her sight words to me. She flew through her SRP book. She read the best I've seen her read yet! We went over her "In the Fall" book, and she told me why she thought the author wrote the book. She wrote her spelling words with her finger on my back, and I did the same to her while she guessed. We ended the session with her sight words. She went through all of them with no errors!

Tutoring review by Cheryl in Pittsburg, CA
The student completed his math homework, then we spent some time on math facts and ISEE questions. He did well on everything, but he could improve the amount of time he spends on each question. We discussed the associations of some math facts, and reviewed time management for the ISEE. He has online practice tests for practice. His fact recall is improving, and he does well on the online test practice. He believes he will do well on the ISEE (that was a big part of his challenge).

Tutoring review by Michael in Pittsburg, CA
At the start of this semester, the student's teacher began using a "flipped classroom," where the students learn the material (through watching teacher made YouTube videos and taking notes) at home, and practice the content at school. Because of this change in teaching style, we will be altering how we conduct our tutoring sessions. I have decided I need to devote at least part of our sessions to working with him on study habits and note taking skills. If he practices these methods it can greatly increase his learning. He has a test this Wednesday, and a review packet due the same day. Today we went over the review packet, and he attempted to finish as much of the packet as he could. He still has approximately 2 pages to complete and 3-4 pages to review. All-in-all, I think that he is in good shape for his exam! He retained a lot of the information from last semester, and seemed to complete the practice problems tonight with ease.

The session went well today. We did a review on math and vocabulary as well as some comprehension. The student also took a diagnosis in the session and did fairly well.

Tutoring review by Barbara in Pittsburg, CA
The student was beginning a new unit, so for this session, we began by reviewing the concepts that were taught in her classroom. We reviewed recognizing the quadrants of a graph, and understanding how to plot points on a graph using the x and y axes. She was shown a graph and asked to identify in which quadrant of the graph a particular point lay. Then, we began to preview the units that she would learn for the rest of the week. We previewed how to use a graph to demonstrate the relationship between two entities (ex. distance and time). We also previewed how to recognize and write the rule or function that determines a sequence. Then we discussed the difference between arithmetic and geometric sequences. We discussed linear functions vs. parabolic functions. To conclude, we previewed the concept of an ordered pair, and how to use a table and a rule to create a set of ordered pairs.
