Tutoring review by Crystal in Mebane, NC
Today, we started with a short review of the upper numbers and some more phone number saying practice. Then, we moved onto the concept of grammatical gender in French - nouns are classed (rather arbitrarily) into either masculine or feminine, and all associated articles and adjectives must agree with the gender and plurality of the noun. The student learned all of the indefinite and definite articles, and some basic people words and whether they were masculine or feminine - mother, father, sister, brother, friend, teacher, cousin, etc. We also started some work on possessives - 1st, 2nd, and 3rd person singular and matching them with the corresponding gender and plurality of the noun they modify. We also discussed how French people will use "C'est" (it's) instead of "Il/Elle est" in front of an indefinite article. The student can now say simple sentences such has "His name is M. Duval. He is my math teacher." Bon week-end!

We went through sections 1.2 and 1.3 and studied for the student's quiz tomorrow. He knows most of the material very well. We covered what was on the practice test, and he can definitely do all of those concepts well. Then, we went beyond that and covered all of the material in both sections. He was struggling a little bit with vertical and horizontal asymptotes, so I picked out a few problems for him to do. The answers are in the back of the book, so he'll be able to check his work.

Tutoring review by Chelsea in Mebane, NC
The student and I worked on her Chapter 4 topics, which she hasn't learned in class yet. I introduced her to the concept of decimal multiplication, and we discussed some of her homework for Monday in advance. I gave her the rules for multiplying by powers of 10 and by 1/10, 1/100 and 1/1000. We also reviewed multiplication facts for a few minutes. She was happy and confident today!

We reviewed all previous material for the student's upcoming test. I think she is prepared. She still remembers how to do almost all of the equations and problem solving skills that we've worked through.

Tutoring review by Melody in Mebane, NC
We reviewed both physics and algebra homework. Physics has introduced new problems focusing on force due to friction as well as tension; typical problems include boxes being pushed across floors and boxes hanging from ropes. We also went over an algebra assignment involving the factoring of trinomials. The student hadn't quite grasped the physics concepts before we met, but she caught on quickly. She already had a good handle on the algebra assignment but got even more confident as she did more problems.
