Tutoring review by Tara in Hillsborough, NC
The student has just started preparations for a research paper in his English class. We spent the hour selecting potential subjects and answering a series of questions his teacher laid out for each. Next, he will have to select a single person on whom to write the paper and start his formal research. We will continue working on this next week, after he's nailed down the topic.

Tutoring review by Danny in Hillsborough, NC
Today we spent an hour reviewing older material in preparation for the student's upcoming final in 2 weeks. We reviewed radical/rational/exponential/logarithmic equations and properties as well as some associated word problems. Then we spent the remaining time discussing the current study topic of conic sections, parabolas in particular and also previewed hyperbolas for the upcoming week. He seems pretty confident with the review we did today, but I will have some review work for him to do next week. Also he took a review quiz so I look forward to seeing his results.

The student had a quiz coming up, so we began by working through the self-tests that were recommended by her teacher. She seemed to be well-prepared and was having no problem with the problems. We moved on to working ahead on the next homework assignment, which also turned out to be good review for her quiz.

Tutoring review by Bill in Hillsborough, NC
The student and I covered topics from his quiz including, but not limited to, finding the point slope equations when given two points on a graph and/or given a point on a graph and the slope, finding the slopes of parallel lines given the slope, finding the solution sets to linear functions (straight lines), parallel lines, and using the substitution method to find the solution to linear equations. The student was very cooperative throughout the session. He made a few mistakes with unlike signs but improved toward the end of the session.

Tutoring review by Chris in Hillsborough, NC
The student and I spent the session going over review problems he had run into issues with. He has been practicing for an exam he has in the near future, and he identified a number of questions he wanted help with. While reviewing these problems, we found that most of the issues arose from either taking a complicated derivative or solving a complicated algebraic equation. He has the fundamentals down for problems such as this and simply needs to work slowly and pay attention to detail. I recommended that he carefully go over the steps of his solution as he works to see if there are any minor errors, as those tended to be the only kind he was making.
