Tutoring review by Daniel in Danville, VA
Today, we worked on two step problems. I had her map out exactly what the problem was asking and then solve it. After working through an example, she seemed to grasp the concept. We then reviewed a division test. I had the student practice with a few problems. We then worked on telling time, specifically working on quarters and half past hours. Finally, we did a brief writing session. In the next session, I will be working with the student on practicing for her state math test, continued practice on time, and another writing session. It was a solid session!

Tutoring review by Amy in Danville, VA
The student and I worked on multiple step equations as well as using sets of equations to solve for more than one variable. We briefly covered how to find the point of intersection of two lines. I showed him multiple ways of solving those problems such as creating a graph or table for the coordinate points, in addition to simply isolating a variable and plugging it into the other equations. He is very enthusiastic and is doing this outside of his working time to challenge himself. He has not had a tutor in a while and therefore seems reasonably rusty. Nevertheless he only needs slight correction and he already knows when he needs to do. I left him with problems that we had completed during the session as well as detailed explanation of those problems. Since this was the first session, we discussed his expectations and how he learns the best. From now on I will be bringing practice problems and materials for both the sessions as well as homework. He is very good with algebra he just needs more practice.

Tutoring review by David in Danville, VA
We went over a quiz of hers from last week (which mainly involved clarifying what multiplicity of zeroes looked like in the graph of a function), as well as two sections in her book that will be quizzed tomorrow. The first section covers pretty much the same procedure that we did last week. The second section introduces complex numbers, which the student understood well. I highlighted a useful trick which I'm sure will be on the quiz, and she seemed confident on the rest. I introduced the idea of the complex plane, which is the way complex numbers are viewed in college, as well as a geometrical interpretation of multiplying them together. All in all, I think she knows her stuff pretty well for tomorrow, and I look forward to covering new material next week.

We covered math and literature. I want to review his last quiz with him to account for his progress. We will be reviewing that next time. We also extensively prepared for his vocab test in literature.

Tutoring review by James in Danville, VA
We started with a fractions quiz and the student scored 20/20 on it. I am so proud of his progress with fractions and we have agreed to a fractions quiz once a week instead of twice. We reviewed his homework and he obtained a perfect score on that assignment. Afterwards, we worked on linear equations briefly, but focused on converting fractions to decimals and decimals to fractions. He seems to understand that concept fairly well. So we are going to do a decimals to fractions quiz on Wednesday before reviewing the second homework assignment. I think he is making great progress and his math grade has improved from B to A-. I think by the end of the semester he will be at an A grade.

Tutoring review by Brittany in Danville, VA
The student and I worked on his "La Carrera" unit vocabulary. We also reviewed the difference between reflexive verbs and verbs that use indirect objects. Additionally, he and I practiced speaking and reviewed some vocabulary from Spanish I. He is going to rewrite his old Spanish I notes as a way to study and organize his materials.
