What things could a Tulsa SAT class help me review?
The SAT contains four sections: Math, Reading, Writing and Language, and the Essay. The SAT has a time limit of three hours, and you'll have an additional 50 minutes if you choose to take the Essay section. All questions besides the Essay are multiple-choice and scored based on the number of correct answers, so it is important to note that there is no penalty for guessing. Let's have a look at each section of the SAT.
The Math section allows you 80 minutes to complete 58 questions. This section is broken down into two parts: the calculator part, and the no calculator part. The no calculator part features 15 multiple-choice questions and 5 grid-ins, while the calculator part features 30 multiple-choice questions and 8 grid-ins. Content areas you will be tested on during the Math section include algebra, problem-solving and data analysis, and advanced math skills. This portion of the test is intended to test your fluency, conceptual understanding and application skills.
Next, we have the Reading section of the SAT. The Reading section allows each test-taker 65 minutes to complete 52 questions. The score for this section of the test is combined with the Writing and Language section that follows. Throughout this portion of the test, you should be prepared to read passages from contemporary or classic world literature, passages from a United States founding document, passages from the Great Global Convention, science passages, and a social science selection. The Reading section of the SAT is intended to assess the following skills: command of evidence, words in context, and analysis of history, social studies, and science.
Now, onto the Writing and Language section. This section of the SAT allows you 35 minutes to complete 44 questions, and the score from this section is combined with that of the previous Reading section. All questions within this section are multiple-choice and come from provided written passages. Some passages included in this section involve tables, graphs, and charts; however, no math is required. Prior knowledge of the information in the passages is not part of this test. This section aims to assess the following skills: command of evidence, words in context, expression of ideas, and standard English conventions.
Finally, we have the optional Essay section of the SAT. This portion of the test allows the test-taker 50 minutes to complete one question. The section involves first reading a passage to consider the author's use of evidence, reasoning, and stylistic and persuasive elements. You will then write an essay in which you evaluate the author's arguments and persuasive abilities. You will need to cite one or more of the features listed above, and your essay should not explain if you agree with the author's claims or not. This assessment will test your reading, analysis, and writing skills.
Some additional details to consider in regard to taking the SAT include testing times. The test typically begins between 8:30 and 9:30 am and is completed by between 12 and 1 pm, depending on whether you choose to take the optional Essay section. Students taking the SAT will also be allowed one 10-minute break and one five-minute break throughout the duration of the test. Lastly, it is important to consider that each section of the SAT also receives a separate sub-score, providing insight into a student's individual strengths and areas of opportunity.
