Varsity Tutors can help students who are getting ready for college admissions tests by finding a Milwaukee SAT course to meet their needs. While you might not know which college you want to go to yet, many juniors in high school are thinking about how to tackle the application process and what they'll need to get ready. Many colleges look for students that have taken a standardized test, such as the SAT. Some students in Milwaukee, including those at schools such as the University School of Milwaukee and Homestead High School, get started with the SAT. This test can play a role in helping you get into the college of your choice, so it's important to do your best.
The SAT is made up of four sections, including Math, Reading, Writing and Language, and the optional Essay. If you're getting started in examining the test or you're curious about how to improve in one of the sections, it pays to take the time to study. Because your overall score on the exam shows colleges how well you will handle university-level material, it's important to do your best and shoot for the highest score possible.
What can a Milwaukee SAT class help me review?
The SAT exam lasts three hours, with an extra 50 minutes if you've opted to take the Essay portion. All other sections of the test are multiple-choice. You are graded based on the number of correct answers chosen. There's no penalty for guessing, so it's important to do so, even if you feel unsure about the answer. During the test, there is one 10 minute break and one 5 minute break.
The Math portion of the test has 58 questions and is 80 minutes long. You can earn a score between 200-800 points. Certain parts of the test are marked as calculator and no calculator. Other areas ask more than one question for the same problem. You'll be quizzed on areas such as solving algebra problems using equations, using data analysis to understand the material presented and solve a problem, and rewriting expressions. The test allows you to demonstrate how fluent you are in solving problems with accuracy, using shortcuts, and using real-life situations that require math to show how a solution can be found.
The Reading section has 52 questions and is 65 minutes long. During this portion of the exam, you'll use passages from U.S. or world literature, one or two passages from the United States founding documents, a passage relating to social science, such as psychology or sociology, and two or three passages that discuss science, such as biology or chemistry. You'll find common themes between text and see how authors use evidence in their arguments. Other questions on the test look at the tone and style of writing, along with the choice of words used.
The Writing and Language section has 44 questions and lasts for 35 minutes. The score here is combined with your score on the Reading section for a total of 200-800 for both sections. Although there are multiple passages provided in this section, sometimes tables and graphs are used as well. You'll show how words are used in context, use evidence to make a point, and focus on demonstrating your understanding of grammar through syntax corrections, punctuation, and word choice.
Finally, the Essay gives you 50 minutes to answer one question in a written format. Your score can be between 6-24 points. After reading a passage, you'll look at the evidence presented to write an essay of your own, where you'll discuss the author's abilities to persuade and make an argument. You'll also cite passages of the essay in order to support your point of view as you make your case about the author's abilities.

The overall focus of the class is giving you the confidence to do your best on the SAT.
